Europa Universalis / Crusader Kings / Hearts of Iron
The question is simple...
Anyone plays these or am I the only one?

To be honest with you, I've never really heard of them. What are they about exactly?

I've picked up Europa Universalis many times at the store, but never bought it for some reason. I don't remember why, but very likely because it was a real time game.

Well they're some sort of uber-strategies. Europa is about Europe from the middle ages to Napoleonic times, Hearts of Iron about World War 2, and Crusader Kings about the middle ages.
Extremely fun. All made by Paradox Interactive. Their characteristic are details (heck, it shows medieval Serbian dynasties, Bhutan minister of armaments etcetera) and endless replayability (you can play with ANY nation in existence - even Oman, Yemen, Chile, Sioux, Inca, etc. at any time).

You can pause the game at any time (to issue orders and handle stuff), and slow it down (or make it faster) as much as you like. It always felt as turn based to me  You should try it.

I must confess that I have never played crusader. Shame on me.
But the other two, yep. We play HoI 2: DD with my friend quite often.
Too bad the AI sucks so badly. Because of the cheats(unlimited resources for britain or no range limit for ships anyone?) you can't even pretend that there is a normal war between USA and Japan or UK and Germany.
Nevertheless a great game.

About Europa Universalis 2: this game is the best historic strategy I've ever played. I always played Great Campaign, mostly by european countries but I remember when I played Incas and when Spanish conquerors attacked I had better land tech than them  . Once with Turkiye I conquered half Europe, Venezia, Vienna and Praga were Islam.
