Will people play a new H3 campaign?
Hi fellow heroes,
I am new to this forum but have been a diehard fan of Heroes 2 and 3, and use to be very active on the old 3DO forum. Have played H4 and 5 but never really liked either, nothing beats a good old H3 game...
A while back (4~5 years ago) I made a series of new challenging maps, shared them with some of my friends and they loved them, sadly the maps are long gone as I have changed PC a couple of times. I was thinking of remaking these maps and prehaps give them a story line, which hopefully makes a challenging campaign. It's likely to take me 6 months+ before the campign is completed. Just wondering is this worth doing? will people still want to play a new H3 campaign? Or is everyone busy playing H5 these days?
Any suggestions are welcomed!
Fal

I will. But if you won`t make it for WOG and with ERM scripts, somebody is going to unleash the Bloodthirsty at you...(heh)

Despite H5 being out and all, I can honestly say that there is a market for people playing H3 campaigns by many players around the world. Still. Even to this day. The Campaign Archives have tons of members. Our third highest membered site to be exact. Trust me, it will get played.

Bloodthirst eh? heh. Don't worry I was never liked WoG. It will be based on the original SoD game, without fancy addons or scripts. Glad to hear there are still people playing H3 though

Hey Fal,
nice to hear that there are still people who are making new maps for the best Heroes part ever. But, please, write a storyline, because that's what I'm playing campaigns for. I mean there are enough challenging single player maps out there, but good campaigns are very rare.
However, I'm currently working on a H3 map, too, though I got a different premise. I want to create a singleplayer map that can match up to Corribus' maps (and hopefully winning ).
So, I'm looking forward to your completed campaign.
And don't worry about insufficient numbers of players. Just submit your campaign on Drachenwald's Kartenarchiv. There you'll probably find more H3 players than on CH (my latest map has got more than 4000 downloads in 2007)!

Thanks for the tips Tobius, that's a good point you've made, I'm still thinking what the story should be, I have some ideas but will probably adopt a storyline from a novel. Any suggestions everyone?
So regarding the difficulty, you are right there's too many challenging maps out there already, I would like to know how difficult would most people want from this campaign. Should it be as hard as the Eternal Love campaign, or maybe something like Crag Hack's SoD campaign, or prehaps something easier?
I'm not a big fan of ridiculously powerful heroes, unique artifacts exhibitions, fifth level spell spam, or 200+ black dragons battles. Personally I prefer smaller tactical battles and smart map maneuve. Is this acceptable to most people?

Then you may make something like Scrowe`s 2 maps "Shar`s war" and "Hail to the King", but with smaller armies(in the end you will have a big army and your enemy too)
Or...something like campaign "Life of an A-d-v-e-n-t-u-r-e" from WOG.(i didn`t tell you SHOULD use the scripts, but i also didn`t tell you SHOULDN`T use them if you want...)
I too don`t like fighting a hero with 99 level, 99 all primary stats and, for example, with 4597 angels in one slot and always take Tactics if i get a chance.

on that note,
how DO you play that a-d-v-e-n-t-u-r-e campaign?
is that the one with the peasant?
how does 1 peasant beat lots of crusaders...
and that necro campaign where you start with armageddon (prior to starting you choose bonus as antimagic or prot from fire).
That campaign is also unplayable.
If you choose antimagic. You can only protect one stack from arma.
And when you fight the archangels, you don't have enough skeles to cast antimagic and then arma.
If you choose prot from fire. you die in the v. beginning. prot from fire (even expert) does not protect from arma. enough to keep 1 skele alive

You don`t have to fight the Archangels, there`s a hidden passage at the left, which will collapse after you pass(meaning you`ll have to fight the archangels on return)
And...No, you also don`t have to beat lots of crusaders. Guess!

Yes, Heroes 3!!!
Just joined heroes community and saw your heroes 3 note. My husband and I only play H3 after all these years! We're always looking for new maps. We usually play allied, and often just take an XL, balanced maps and make teams out of it. We lost our favorite map collection due to a crash. Hope you had enough positive feedback to create some more! Mrs Emo

Sure will! I haven't had time to play heroes lately as I've been busy working. But I now have pretty good idea on the storyline and have made good progress on the first map, hopefully I will be releasing my first map by the end of next month.

Welcome to heroes community!
I think celestialheavens has some maps.
Although if you're looking for allied... not much of those actually exist over the net.
The best maps to play allied with that I can remember are still the RoE ones... Free for All (play 2v6), Warlords (play 2v6), and Warmongers (play 2v6 and start on the small islands).

Thanks for the tips! We've used that site and played those maps! H3 is really the only game we play (well maybe some cribbage now and then.) My husband was addicted to the original heroes when we met, and I had to learn to play if I wanted any of his time! Must admit I love it myself! Haven't found any other turn based games that are similar. If you know of any, let us know! The modern fancy 3D graphics give me headaches. So, I'll stick with what works! Happy Gaming! I'm off to look for a new map! Mrs Emo

Let's stay in topic but...
age of wonder games are pretty good, I also play a wonderful little game called dominions 3 (or dominions 2), it's mainly a MP game and there's an active community, if you love deep strategy gaming and don't mind the poor graphic be sure you try dominions.
