'to slow, to fast and to furious'
well since I just got the 200 games checkmarks I wanna make an "little" summary of my experience so far.... (and so far 55 different opponents)
what I really wanted to do is to categorize all my opponents but I guess if I did... well my career at ToH will end all of a sudden...
so I rather speak in general...
To Slow:
this is the player you should fear the most... ehh why??
answer: because this "hero" really knows what he doing and calculate
every step on the map and even every battle until your last HP (read hit points) every turn can take from 10 min up to 45 min (or yeah even longer............
To Fast:
this player does'nt care about calcutation or such a thing at all...
(could be because he knows this game so *amn good or just because he loves "speed tickets"
(sidenote so you think "To Slow" does'nt know the game answer: oh yes he does for sure!)
To furious:
well what about this player...... puhh so far still player is still to come... puhh
epilog:
why do I play this game and what do you want your games to be like....
hmmm hard to tell in a few sentence but I give it a try:
First of all I love this game and another good thing is that most of the "champions" out there is nice too.....
but whats your objective for a game:
well first of all I wanna do my best to give my opponent an close and hard final battle then I'm satisfied simple as that
and at last if you wonder what kind of player I am... (To Slow or To Fast or maybe even To Furious....
I like to say that I'm a "To Fast" guy.....
but if you want the truth ask some of my opponents....

Aww a categorization of the opponents would be fun Nice thread, always interesting to look back where you started. I guess I'm more of a fast player, when I play I have an idea of what I will do and will try to do it fast. Too much analyzing kills the fun of the game.
Of course it's possible that the turn's battles will include a throng of zombies, horde of golems and horde of warmongers with 8 furies
Yes it's easy to notice that the slower players are often the deadliest. I think I've waited 30+ mins turn so far.
I'll also agree about the good battle in the end, without a challenging endgame fight the game feels hollow. Anyway toh has been great fun so far, looking forward to playing more games

I hate slow players. When they are slower than me they take all the fun in this game.
And by the way, "too" is written with two "O"s

I always feel I am in the Too Slow catagory, so sometimes overcompensate to the Too Fast. Personally I like slow opponits, then I don't feel so bad.

i'm more in the 'extreme fast' category, so I do grow impatient with the calculating types. thank god for sim turns though.

I think i'm in the too fast category, and ends up in the too slow category when got into trouble during battles, come out alive of such battles can be satisfying though
I've waited for as long as 1 hour turns very frequent.. have to agree its pretty frustrating. Once i even finish watching a movie while waiting for a turn
Usually players who are so slow have to be good, gotta agree on that , but there's some who's really fast on turns and are really good, nice example is betruger

In general I belong to this category. Yet, I take my pride into being able to have turns of the same length as "too fast" player Fiur for a couple of games... Then again our last game was probably close to my slowest ever...
Imo, it really depends on map structure and race you are playing with. First, if map is built of blocks containing lots of guards then it's inevitable that once you enter them (especially if 1-2 weeks earlier) the turns are loooong. Secondly, we all have noticed the creeping speed difference between necro/inferno and sylvan/orcs for instance.
Also, with a couple of pals we have been playing this little game of comparing "battle count" that appears if game is d/c... quite often the slower player has 20-30% more of them (especially in first 2 weeks)..
To summarize, I'm slow but occasionally I'm fast...I'm proficient with mouse/keyboard, almost never spend time thinking during the turn...and yet...and yet why am I so slow???

This is all so relative, so its hard. I am a lot faster than Strider but a lot slower than Fiur aswell at times Whether I like opponents that are faster or use a bit more time depends on when I play. I agree with Insa, some times it is great to have that 1 min to gather the thoughts, go to the bath etc, without feeling that you are slowing the opponent down. However, fast players are great to play with as long as you dont feel they are tearing their clothes apart in frustration over your longer turns, and most of you are polite in that sense
But - ultralong turns games are frustrating - since it gives me 2 pieces of sinister info
1 - I will lose the game for sure
2 - I will spend at least 2 times my normal game time to do it, with low motivation and less fun. Ring of broken will couldnt have done the same job.
I gotta put myself in the Elvin category - I have a sketch of a plan, but as the guards are beatable i change it from day to day
I guess we suit eachother differently - hence I for instance have played a lot of games with Fiur since he has "perfect" turnlenghts for me, although he must wait a bit at times, but rarely too long
Now - if anyone could change the timezones so me and Destro could get our Clan War Final I would be happy!!

Not sure of the exact length of time, but I think over 30 minutes. During that time I built my capital in one town, built a resource silo in another, and hired what creatures I could afford. I chained those creatures to my main. My scouts (4 by this time) all went as far as their movements would allow them, I sacrificed 2 of those to see exact number in one garrison and against a guard for a mine (Still had 4 'extras' counting chainers and was running out of area to explore).
My main tackled the mine, and some various other creatures near it, while my chainer gobbled up all the loose items. Had to fight them by hand, the computer had way too many losses (saved about 1/2 of the creatures the computer would have lost). Since this main had warpath, they kept moving pretty good, and most of the creatures didn't even kill a single one of his troops. Took 1 town and defeated 1 enemy scout. Mostly it was LAG that caused the most problems.

I recently played a game of HG and I waited every single turn for the entire first week 20+ minutes per turn after my relatively long turn ended.
That was very frustrating.
I am also a very fast player after week 1.. week 1 I am doing usually combats many people wouldn't bother with... and sometimes I shouldn't have either... naybe its some of these combats that lead to the "fast" turns later hehe.
I know people wait for me alot. And I do the same. I think when your playing relatviely skilled players both parties should expect to wait at least a couple turns per week and vice versa.
