I'm New To This . . . Help?

Okay I dug out an old classic I enjoyed as a child, Heroes of Might and Magic: III. My brother saw me play and got all interested so we've both been playing campaign. But now we want to play each other.  We live in the same house, different computers, same connection. Hotseat won't work for us. How do we connect to one another?

Some other details that I don't know if they matter:
We both connect wirelessly to the internet
He's got a laptop
I've got a desktop
We both run Vista
And we both have Heroes: III the Complete version.

Thankyou for your time.

I already looked there and and I was unable to find what I was looking for. I don't want to set up a virtual LAN. Just me and my bro, we'd do hot seat but that wouldn't work for us, due to space issues.

If u both are connected wireless through the same router, you just need to connect by internal IP.

Networking is where I utterly failed in my ITT classes. So do I start a TCP/IP game?

Yes, with the same connection, you should use TCP/IP

Well, TCP/IP is not working. He tries to connect via our IP Address, not the one the game displays, but our actual IP Address. It always says IP not found. Since we access the same wireless router firewalls shouldn't be the problem right? We've both tried hosting, nothing seems to work.

You shouldn't use the IP he has while browsing net etc. but the IP your brother has in your own LAN for his own PC. (internal IP adress not the one that your router has)

Um how can I found that address? Through command prompt? Like an "ip config /all" type deal?

Sorry to be constantly bothering you guys over this constantly. But even after using what should have been right the IP: 192.168.1.101 it still gives us an error. I've got a game hosted, I havn't started it yet, but he's always unable to find the game.

Try going to cmd and typing ipconfig.

If you have a router then you may need to know what the ip is for that.

So permission for Homm has been given to all firewalls, ip is correct, you are connected in lan via router...

Do you two have the same ip adress?
If you do try finding the other ip. It seems it is correct though.

And firewalls can stop lan activity too if set so. Better check the permissions.

Is your firewall set to stealth in lan settings?
This can usually be seen in firewall settings.
Putting firewall off for lan might work.

Does your router allow lan activity?
Can be tested by creating a lan(create a homenetwork) through windows. If it shows your brothers pc it works.
If not find router settings and search from there.
