I have a rust dragon (recolored black dragon) but for some reasons it recolored the black dragon too 
I tried making a crystal dragon, but it looks better in gimp than in game. and a decent azure dragon seemed really easy to do with gimp.

Actually there are already mods for all those creatures. here and here are the links, the creatures in there: Death Knight, Black Knight, Basilisks, Enchanter, Thunder bird and Firebird.
BTW there are already wolves in the game.

Nice creatures. IS this mod going to have alternative upgrades?
I think you should make the rouges skin more pink and the fire elemental more orange. Also there's too much fire on the fire elemental.

I would still like to do textures but I just want to make my Jackals for my mod, then I could do some textures. I'll tell you when I'm ready... And btw I think the mod would be more like HOMM3 if it didn't have alternative upgrades. And of course it's less work 
I would like to do the Naga later if it's OK, however it will take some time bofore I'm done.

Anyone know who made the Crystal Dragon? It was based on one of the Dwarf dragons, it was red, there were various attempts by the author, Alc was there I think...

on my computer, I'm working on it. and it seems I got confused about the crystal dragon, mine can fly (it's a recolored rainbow dragon)
my retexturing are usually quite simple, for the rust dragon, I took the black dragon and played with color balance. red : 50 and yellow : 30. basically it's a brown dragon.
for an azure dragon, the rainbow dragon with blue : 100 or cyan : 100 looked like it could be good. (seriously, I expected something crappy, but it seems it wasn't)

neither, the model is still as big (I think)
for the crystal dragon (recolored rainbow dragon) :
red : 100
magenta : 10
red lightness : 10
red saturation : 40
cyan hue : 120
cyan saturation : -40
but actually it looked good in gimp, but in game it seemed weird (with minimal graphics) and I guess it may not work on magma dragon.
also be careful when modding magma dragon, it seems magma dragon's textures are called fire dragon, and fire dragon's textures are called magma dragon (or something like that)

Stab all you like, the texture is the only modded feature apart from the fire effects, which are removed.

Crystal Dragon: Note the semi-transparentness
I am terrible with effects. I couldn't get rid of the mouth smoke, but will try again tonite. I would like to put a glowing orb in the middle of his chest if possible. If I remember correctly, the crystal dragon is nothing more than a pile of crystals with a heart of magic.
I'll have to do another screenshot.. this one doesn't do it justice.
