Modding lessons
After talking briefly to pause, I stumbled on the idea of having some HC modding `lessons`. They'd be live (e.g. like the HC chatroom), with real-time responses, answers, testing (students have the editor open in the background...), questions etc., with one or two `teachers` - i.e. people drawn from those of us who know what we're doing in some area of modding - plus whoever wishes to be a student. After all, we all know how sometimes the forum style of helping people just isn't hugely convenient. There's 2 main issues though:
Numbers: at the moment, this just wouldn't really be worth it. Given the general high levels of expertise and the limited number of modders, there wouldn't be much point. However, if we were to advertise a bit, maybe the fact that lessons would reduce the fairly large learning curve for H5 modding would be enough to entice one or two new people to join in.
Timezones: the perennial drawback of an international community. Would there ever be a good time, given the potentially low numbers?
Finally we'd have to ask ourselves, is the workshop busy enough? Is there a need for more H5 modders or mods? Would there be much point to the whole idea???
Potential teachers:
Gnoll_Mage (textures, creature creation (effects...), NCF?)
2ndHero (textures)
Cepheus (NCF, texturing, locating elusive data files, some .xdb stuff)
Wulfstan8182 (texturing, see his post below, beginner modding)
Post below if you're interested.

This would be a good idea, it would really help beginners. But I'm having troubles with the HC chatroom.

Thanks. Me too actually (what's the problem for you?). We'd have to look at maybe MSN, an other internet chatroom, or even my own chatroom if necessary,

It worked one day when nobody was there, but when I try to go there my firefox just freezes and I have to end the process from task manager.
I updated my Java but it didn't help.

What do you mean with "could move if I want"? The place?
I can try to find a chatroom, but it would be easier to use MSN messenger (or just a thread were you answer fast.(

If you want to join in, specify the methods that would work (MSN is a no-no for this one I'm afraid).

Why MSN messenger is a no no?
As for the gmail, I think you can't register very easily, because you need somekind of invite codes as far as I know.

Let me in on this, I'd love to help out where possible!
I'm able to help with NCF, texturing of any sort, locating elusive data files and some .xdb stuff. I have no idea how to add effects to merge creatures together, though.

If any teachers want to give a lesson, I guess they can post like I did above. Also, people can make requests...

i can teach some people on changing the colour of a creature's overall appearance/details and still keeping it in the same saturation/lightness and i'm pretty good at alpha too, half transperent=piece of cake but i don't think i'll take any lessons. modding has gone far ahead since i left and i don't wana confuse my head again(grrr... that evil NCF! dares to confuse a dwarven ghotst's head)

Anyone up for a running a "modding for n00bs" lesson?
Edit: I hope no-one's expectations are too high for tomorrow, I'm a notoriously bad teacher...
