Worst upgrade: definitely imps or magogs. I NEVER upgrade imps unless I've just got masses of gold to burn since they're getting turned into demons anyway.

Since no one has mentioned it yet...

I think Ghost Dragons should be an honorable mention for worst upgrade. Lots of resources to buy the building, and +1200 gold +1 mercury for each dragon. Sure, more speed, HP, etc. is nice, but it's not a game breaker. If the aging ability weren't so easy to remove (cure, dispell) that'd be worth it but as is who really cares, especially since it only hits 20% of the time.

I personally like the Cyclops King upgrade. Now with just two of my seven slots occupied with CKs, I can demolish a good potion of the wall in the first round, and usually some of the turrets by the end of the second round. With all the crystal to buy the cave initially, it's tough to assemble enough Cyclops (upgraded or not) to justify their value as shooters.

The worst UPG. is Skeleton Warriors. should you have seven satcks occupied, you'll only raise 2/3 worth os Skellies. It doesn't worth the stats boost.
In the same idea, Demons should remain unupgraded.

Strange is that most people consider Cyclops Kings a bad upgrade. The Cyclops MUST be upgraded, since they are vital in besieging. A Catapult-Cyclops King is far more effective than an Expert Ballsitics hero.

Conquering enemy towns is a verry important part of the game. Probably the most important part.

Maby the worst unit in the game(for me), is the orcs. Those hamer throwing nubs don't do any damage, how can they be a level 3 unit and do so little damage.

The archers from Castle and Rampart all do way more damage as basic infantry then the upgraded version of the orcs.

Is there any kind of speciality the orcs have that I don't know about? they are probably the main reason I never play as stronghold, no ranged units(same with cyclops if you dont have crystals).

it IS good to upgrade skeleton warriors, since if your army is full and you have only the upgraded skeleton warriors, your new recruits will also be raised as skeleton warriors. Is this a bug?

Who cares. It's worth the upgrade in my opinion, not the corpse walker unit though..

No, you only get 2/3 raised as Warriors. If you raise 60 Skeleton Warriors you would have raised 90 skeletons with a free space.

Btw, Orcs are victims. The siege tower allways goes after them and they are also cheap for that amount of HP(If I don't remember wrong about the price).

Cyclops Kings are not worth all that gold.

Of course upgrading skeletons to warriors is a GOOD move. You should still have an empty space (no walking dead in army) for raising normal skellies. On a hillfort u even get them upgraded for free...

Or you just upgrade them right before u say HELLO to your opponent for main battle...

There are far more useless upgrades than skeletons (especially when refering to costs)......basilisks, dendroids, orcs, monks, beholders....

Exactly.

Cyclops?
Dendroids are pretty expensive to upgrade but one speed and 10 health feels fine when fighting.
Monks ain't that bad to upgrade. 50 gold for 2 speed, No meele penalty and 3 def.
Wouldn't say Orcs is the worst upgrade, it's cheap and you get 1 speed + 5 health.

It took me a long time to figure out Orcs. There are two good uses:

1. They are very good early game at clearing out non-ranged units. Until you get a power stack of Rocs, or a couple Behemoths, it can be pretty stressful trying to keep your goblins and wolves from getting killed when clearing low-level critters. A better plan is to buy Orcs early, and they're cheap too!
2. Later, as victims (someone else mentioned this). The AI turrets will usually target them, saving your Thunderbirds.

In general, they're not very good, but they are cheap!

I'm sorry, but it's ideal to conqueror the enemy castles. At least because IT'S THE MAIN WINNING CONDITION.

Heh? 1+ max dice, +2 speed and No enemy relitation. Its freaking good.
Add on using of Bless and we got a winner............

I think its Evil Eye, upgrade is no significant difference.
As stated in another tread: Combats don't last that long.

Or its got to be Magog........... Fireball is soo easy to counter....

How often do you manage to conquer the enemy town in an online game ? Because i have may be 5-10 games when there was a siege at all. The only reason one will ever engage a siege battle is if he/she is totally overwhelming his oponent or in some cases if he/she suspects that the enemy is trying to recharge his/her mana pool.

It can actually be an advantage to attack someone in their town if you play dungeon or tower against stronghold or fortress.

Thats only providing there are huge armies, so the relevant importanse of the towers is smaller.

And i think, that only dungeon will have advantage even outside the walls.

I doubt that tower will have advantage. Only 1/4 of the shooting is not enough to compensate the towers. And the fliers of the tower are very weak, so thats another disadvantage.
