Thicket Town
Greetings everyone!
Just let you know that recently i and my collegue decided to give you information that we plan to develop a new town AFTER we finish the Grove.
The main reason even to speak about this idea - while writing Grove story now - already to form a platform for a future town project, that will be strongly connected with the Grove.
Again, this is only a rough version of the town. Many features still must be planned and discussed. But all this in addition to let you know that dont stop developing of the Grove, but as i said we are now writing a story, so i dont have any graphical content to "make your eyes happy" (i hope ), but i will try to fix it by uploading some pics with updated creature graphics and may be some new ones.
And so i am posting the brief conception of the town itself...
The Thicket town aslo will be "built" using Warcraft graphical resources and its storyline. Thus i will be glad to hear constuctive opinion from Warcraft/WoW players (esp. WoW as i dont play myself in it).
Initially we planed to make Thicket as a town-antipode for the Grove, similar to such towns in H5, i.e. the same town and units, but redrawed and reformed and having opposite alignment... But then we decided to make a fully functional town, which just populated by deadly enemies of the Grove creatures.
So...
Thicket "community" is not a state or country by itself. It is just a territorial unification ruled by a group of powerful Demon Hunters, which leaved their night elvish brothers and sisters. In general the Thicket units can be divided by 3 groups:
1. Renegades - those elves, who leaved Grove searching for the new knowledge (mostly dark one)
2. "Corrupted ones" - night elves, "corrupted" by the dark magic against their will
3. Local dwellers, transformed through the magical experiments
1). Diseased Ent / Plagued Ent
2). Wild Centaur / Centaur Khan - shooter
3). Corrupted Dryad / Cursed Dryad - shooter
4). Tainted Furbolg/Beorning / Dire Furbolg/Beorning
5). Bog Beast / Swamp Lord
6). Fallen Hunter / Demon Hunter
7). Chimera / Dr[ae]nor Chimera[1] – flyer, breath
8). Demon[ic] Transform - shooter
Commander - Satyr
[1] - Please, give me a transcription for this word.
Heroes:
Warrior - Corrupted One
Mage - Renegade
Town:
Alignment - neutral-evil (own purposes)
Native terrain - swamp
Creatures in the town in general have a good speed, defense, health and middle damage and attack. They also have a various magic protections and have some abilities, that available only for heroes-specialists. Finally creature population is rather low.
The town picture itself (as we see it so far) is the night view of a territory with swamps and marshes and dark dense forests on the back. Magical experiments and demonic influence transformed rivers and lakes with yellow acid like water sources and gave local flora strange forms and colors.
Well, that's all for now... I just hope that those here who already know me will NOT consider this project as a new town project spam.

First...i'm glad to hear these
Quote: 1). Diseased Ent / Plagued Ent don't you think that they should be a higher level?
2). Wild Centaur / Centaur Chan - shooter it's ok but centaur chan is too 'japanesish'
3). Corrupted Dryad / Cursed Dryad - shooter good
4). Tainted Furbolg/Beorning / Dire Furbolg/Beorning you could use this flower with swamp colors (i don't have the picture right now) but furbolgs are too 'green wood' type (if you use them with a swamp color it could be better
5). Bog Beast / Swamp Lord good
6). Fallen Hunter / Demon Hunter demon hunter...hmm isn't this u're talking about?
7). Chimera / Dr[ae]nor Chimera[1] – flyer, breath good
8). Demon[ic] Transform - shooter what's this?
might hero - renegate (for me this name sounds might)
magic hero - seer
Quote: Magical experiments and demonic influence transformed rivers and lakes with yellow acid like water sources
cool..reminds me oozes..i suggest to use them for level 1
this town looks good and promising ...i know you are a good grapher and you will make grove and thicket with no problems...
*whispering* it could be cool to have a blood elf town

This unit is too far away from Rampart dendroids... Think of them as a results of unlucky magical experiment. This weak and poor creatures are just a fades of their distant relatives.
Quote: Wild Centaur / Centaur Chan - shooter it's ok but centaur chan is too 'japanesish
You mean too "eastern"? Probably Mongolian? Yes, we see them such way.
But in general we are not quite sure about centaurs at all... We'll try to find another candidate.
Quote: but furbolgs are too 'green wood' type (if you use them with a swamp color it could be better
They will be retextured of course.
Quote: demon hunter...hmm isn't this u're talking about?
Sorry, cannot see the picture... Stupid browser, proxy, provider... Anyway i even posted def of this demon hunter long ago, so you probably know it.
Quote: Demon[ic] Transform - shooter what's this?
It is 2nd upgrade for demon hunter. Here he complete his demonic transform and receive its true demon entity. I will post the pic later.
Quote: might hero - renegate (for me this name sounds might)
Hm, may be.
Quote: magic hero - seer
Not sure. It must be a mage who learns a dark arts of magic. Like of warlock or demonologist...
Quote: cool..reminds me oozes..i suggest to use them for level 1
Ooze are mindless creatures (like golems) that cannot be controlled by anyone... That is why i count them as ideal (non-joinable) neutrals and non-fitting for any town.
Quote: *whispering* it could be cool to have a blood elf town
Good idea! Oh, sh*t... What did i say?!

swamp spiders...perhaps? or satyrs...i remember in warcraft III campaign that they were in the corrupted faction.

i know it then! argh..you again use small humanoids as level 6

ok
if u couldn't see the flower:
so what do u think?

sorcerer maybe?

it could have skills like berserker adn frenzied gnashers in homm 4 cuz they don't have brains so they cannot be controlled (if that's possible )
Quote: Good idea! Oh, sh*t... What did i say?!
u said 'good idea!', u amnezic humanoid!

Oh, i forgot about satyrs... Of course, they will be a commanders.
And we declined the idea about spiders as well.
>>> i know it then! argh..you again use small humanoids as level 6
And again i dont see here problems.
>>> so what do u think?
Big Evil Mutated Flower the Killer? I dont know...
>>> sorcerer maybe?
If this name isnt already used in other town projects, then - may be.
>>> it could have skills like berserker adn frenzied gnashers in homm 4 cuz they don't have brains so they cannot be controlled (if that's possible )
I suspect this is possible via ERM, but not sure is it really needed.

No, Chan is a Japanese diminutive suffix that they add to names (like Baklava-Chan or something) to address a child, or female family member, lover etcetera.
So centaur-chan can be loosely translated to "teenie-weenie-centaur".
Fun project anyway, can't wait to see some graphics.

You know, I'd assume he meant "Centaur Khan"...
Anyway, the very fact that Darkloke's putting this idea out is good news in itself. It shows that the Grove project is getting closer to completion... why else would he post up info on a totally new town while working on one already

In fact, to make others know that the project is not dead when there is nothing new to present
Anyway, good idea, especially to make the dendroids other than typical powerful creature. Waiting for more.

Look, i really tired from this question... I can say "in the end of this year" or "in the end of the next year" and this WILL be the truth or just CAN be the truth. I suppose if you want to hear correct dates, you should draw your attention to other towns, which have larger teams, who develop them.
No offense, please. But we really cannot speak about this. Not because we dont want, but just because we dont know.
Dont forget please, that Grove project is developing only by me and my collegue. Only 2 men. For now i am working on the creatures and my friend is working with the town. On weekends we are trying to "build" a campaign story and other conceptual things.
If we can we'll create all graphical content to the end of the summer. But then we must write scripts and create maps. +Testing. +Various unplanned things. So, think by yourself.

Nice to hear you're still working on Grove. Good job on that.
On topic I have to say you're taking so much work which is pretty awesome for the community and it's making me to browse these forums more and more. In what program are you making the creatures ? Just curious. Because I have 3D Studio Max 8 and I'm pretty lost in it.
I can't give you much reply (I don't even know if you care ) about this project itself but I can wish you good luck. News like this are ressurecting the hope of 3.59.
Best Regards. Dairy.
Sorry, my English sucks.

I am not making from scratch. Dont forget - i just "adapt" ready models in 3DS Max, Photoshop and heroes utilities.

Ents are very nice. They fit for lvl 1 ^_^
Lord Bog is a very massive creature. You should give him a high HP and defence.
Hunters are cool too...especially the upgraded version :X
And my question again:level 8 will be upgraded from level 6? Fallen Hunter -> Demon Hunter -> Demon[ic] Transform
