Was the dog hungry? Irrelevant
Did the dog was so happy to see the man that he jumped on him, and in that moment the man was holding a sword or something close to a sword and the dog pushed him and the sword fell on his head, throat etc? Bingo! Now find out what it was and how it got it.
Did the injury involve a sharp object? Already asked, but yes.
Did the dog move the sharp object? Kind of.
Did the man fall on the sharp object? No
Do YOU know the answer? Yes 
Anyway, did the man have a knife or a dagger and did the
dog even touch the sharp object? No it wasn't the man's and the dog did touch it.
