In my neck of the woods, we call that kind of text "pokemon speech" and we refer to people who use it as pokemon.
Not the kind you'd like to catch, mind you.

Seriously, though, I hate it when people write like that. It's really annoying.
On the other hand, it's an easy way to identify idiots.

I could've sworn that Setitetart said somewhere she was open-minded
You know, ebonics, aka African American vernacular, isn't that much different from other regional dialects. And many of their phrases are rooted in southern slang.
For example, 'finna go' is a derivation of 'fixin' to', and I know of a few people who can't say enough of that phrase. The brothers and sisters aren't the only ones who use the habitual be. You know, the "he be" or "she be." There are blocks of Canadians who use it. And please don't tell me you find the Scottish brogue more understandable than a black person who's back on the block.
So lighten up. Life's too short to be an internet grammarian and stalwart defender of the way a language is supposed to be used. Languages are always shifting and changing. As long as you can understand the other person, it's a good idea to not get too distressed about the differences.

That is wrong. Simply changing the letters between capitol and lower case is not what we're talking about here.

Regarding African-American vernaculars: yes, they are somewhat like leet. And they have the same problem. While there's nothing inherently wrong with them, it's what they indicate that's the problem. 1337, ebonics, redneck, etc. all indicate what kind of person speaks them. Usually, it's not one worth talking to.

I never understood the point 1337 or Pokemon speech
Nowadays ppl just tend to abreviate their posts, but still can't see the logic/use of this. It can't be out of Lazyness, cause since when Is "IdiOtiC SpEEch" easier to type than "Idiotic speech". Is just think is some kind of trend to use that spelling because it's cool. It think that's stupid, some (intellgent) people just think comfort is more important than style (as I think as well). I'm not opposed to abreviations though: things like ROFL, LOL, IMO, LMAO, are just making life easier (unlike NonSEnCIaL St00pIdiTY).
Another thinb is 1337, agains something that is used only because it's cool. It think that is idiotic to use that as well. Why do number replace letters ? It's impossible to replace 26 letters with one 10 numbers (Ultmate st00pidity).
@ the people who use 1337-speech: Use it, if you prefer style over simplicity, but remember: You can't be cool all the time, no one can't; so be a nice guy and act like anyone else, unless you like to be special (but then, I believe that your place isn't a HC)
