Azagal, a Person's true colours are shown about how he treats his direct subjects (like his secretairy), and not how he executes his ideological ideas.
Besides, Mvass said that he was a weak politcian. I believe Mvass on this, and I see him as a authority on American Politics (well, that's a bit too much honour, but still!)
Don't get me wrong; I'm certainly in favour of integrating people of different Races, Sexual Preferences, Ideologies and ideas into Society, but as most politicians are in favour of this, I do not see this as a particular redeeming quality. Every Other Democrat did (or at least would have done the same). Kennedy showed his true colours when he fled, like a coward, lied to the press about his involvement, and let her die in his own stupidity. That's how he was as a person.
