Either way, Mostly the Crystals are simply superior to the Emeralds (High Luck) Immunity to Earth is handy against Dungeon(eventhough Dungeon turns it into 50% Earth-proofness, but with Protection and Arties, it's quite a reduction) and maybe against Sylvan/Fortress (who have quite a high chance of giving quite a nasty Implosion/Meteor Shower)

Crystal Dragons are just a big disappointment for me... their breath is so random, and mostly you don't get what you expect after seeing the target's formula.
On top of that, you lose some important strategical features when using them, like striking with no retaliation when facing a weak stack near a powerful stack, or putting fear in enemy archers since you can go through their protection.
And in the end, you also lose 10% in actual power, and the Earth Spells Immunity.

You underrate them a bit too much imo. Prismatic breath patter goes to target's sides as well and it shows when you rush with Crystals first turn when the enemy is still packed up. I mean you can have a strike on Crosssbowmen/Peasant/Squire/Inquisitor 2x2 block hitting all 4 targets. That's when I found them quite interesting
And even with 0 luck you can still hit max 5 tiles.
Acid breath is also easier to avoid while Prismatic is more hectic so even a one free tile in between units can't guarantee safety. I pick Crystals every time I'm not likely to face an Earth caster.

I used to think like TowerLord at first, but after I saw what those Crystal dragons can do I changed my mind a bit. I'd choose them if I have high luck and the enemy is not likely to have powerful earth spells.

To be honest, I tried them a couple of times while playing the Sylvan campaign (using the TotE conversion mod). Usually, they were acting first, so the enemy lineup was still intact and interconnected. Luck was also no issue, as I was aiming for Nature's luck, so it was always at least like +3 or +4 at minimum. I've seen it hit a neighboring stack once or twice; in all other cases it only hit the stack I attacked.
I think the console shows information on which cells on the battlefield are hit. If they are indeed randomly selected, then apparently it considers cells that hold no creature. Essentially, it is then only useful when the enemy lines are clustered and even then you need to be lucky that there aren't too many empty cells directly around. Then, and only then, there's a fair chance the Crystal dragons deal damage to more than 2 stacks. With Emeralds, you're almost guaranteed to hit 2 stacks.

You're not guaranteed to hit 2 stack with Emeralds if playing vs a human player because he'll place them in a manner in which it will be hard to exploit the Dragon Breath. With Crystals it's harder because of the randomness. It's a matter of one's taste and overall luck

mmmm 2 things that I wonder is
1. If you do Rain of arrow and have a imbue arrow on that, does sorcery do anything on this? Becouse you cast spell so
2. Does Warlocks luck work with Rain of arrow with imbue arrow?

2) It does? I didn't know that, how is it displayed (the lucky shot)? Is it per Arrow or all from Rain of Arrows are lucky sometimes and sometimes not?

Ok tried many times in a Duel with two Dirael, no double damage at all from imbued spells. Of course both Diraels from either side could have been extremely unlucky for such a situation but I doubt it.

Warlock's luck doesn't work with imbues because it counts as an attack from the hero. In one respect, I'm glad because that would just be scary. In another respect, a ranger would have to invest in worthless sorcery skills since sorcery doesn't speed up rain of arrows, so they would have to sacrifice a ton of skills for it.

is the sylvan faction overpowered?
it seems like their arcane archers combined with the master hunter hero make the strongest army in the game.
i also seem to do alot worse with other factions, taking more losses in combat, with sylvan, i can creep at lightning speed with no losses

No but they can be pretty damn good if given time to develop. Let's just say that some of their possible strategies have a degree of imbalance, say rain of imbued frenzy. As for creeping they can't touch other fast factions like dungeon or necro.

Sylvan is one of a kind If I had to describe each faction in short..
Dungeon medium speed, powerful spells, low defense.
Dwarves slow but extremely durable.
Haven powerful melee, medium speed, limited spellcasting.
Academy customizeable speed, varied spellcasting, medium spellpower.
Necro slow, durable, powerful spellcasting.
Orcs medium speed, good all around might, no spells.
Inferno fast, high attack, low defense.
Maybe the latter sounds similar to sylvan except their gating changes the whole gameplay and they die like flies. Avoid fortress, inferno and academy as starting factions as they are harder to learn.

really? academy is medium spellcasting? i am quite suprised by that, i always thought thier units were terrible weak, and their spellcasting was supposed to make up for that

i would put from my experience sylvan somewhere like this
sylvan medum, high attack, medium defense
i would rate sylvan treants waaay up there tho, not alot can stand up to treants that come back from the dead and have 40+ defense
