Was he going to be assaulted by creatures (animals, etc)?
Was he going to get a disease/virus?
Was he going to suffer because of a natural catastrophe?
Was he going to get killed because of other humans?
Does the dog have any impact on his suffering? (I mean more like, the dog makes him suffer in a way -- because of a disease, attack, doesn't matter)
If the dog would have been dead when he saw it, would that change the outcome?

Was the dog some kind of proof for him that something bad is going to happen?
Was he moving in a vehicle/ship/whatever?
Was he on the Earth (that means, not in water, air, or outer space)?
