At least when it comes to personality.
Who cares about personality? It's about gameplay. It's like saying that a Crusader is better than a Chaos Hydra because you think that the Cursader looks cooler.

SC4 is the only SC game i've played through (bits and pieces of SC3) and I was skeptical at first, half naked anime chicks didn't appeal to me. After playing it, I liked the complexity of each character to make them feel unique which is more indepth than MK. I for one like the Star Wars characters especially the Apprentice. The Story Mode is pathetic.
The online experience is a different matter..... SO MANY KILIK SPAMMERS!!! Cervantes spammers come in a close second. and there is alot of unsportman like attitude. Though when I find someone who is a talker then the real fun begins for a real competitive match.
My Perfered Chars: Zasamel, Apprentice, Nightmare, Cervantes.
If you want a fun and competitive match, my 360 gamertag is: Cyrus Phoenix

Of course gameplay is important, the most important actually, but I wouldn't be able to bear myself to play a game with only pink clowns jumping around with one line of voice-acting... Of course, what I described here with the pink clowns would be a complete failure, but I think you get the point, I mean, if personality and story didn't matter then why come up with things like Soul Calibur and Soul Edge's battle?
For me, the Soul Calibur games have always had a certain atmosphere that I've loved... this epic feeling, and characters with good personalities support that and makes the game better.

Look at Street Fighter then. Relatively simple designs. The game lives on gameplay.

I thought Street Fighter died along with punk rock, 3DO, philosophy and other cool stuff that used to exist at some distant point in the past.

Really?
Well, now that I think of it, the Sex Pistols did make an appearance at this year's Exit music festival around here.
If things continue developing this way we can expect 3DO making Heroes VI.
About Yahtzee's review, I'd definitely buy and play the Minimap Quest. Definitely. Maybe we can make it ourselves? We're gonna need a programmer though.

I don't like Street Fighter, too much gameplay
No seriously, I like Soul Calibur's storyline, it's one of few fighting games I've played where I've actually enjoyed the story. That's one of the things that imo, puts Soul Calibur above other fighting games. (Although Soul Calibur's gameplay also beats the hell out of Tekken, Doa, Bloody Roar etc.)

I'm not much into fighting games but Soul calibur 4 really made me say Oh I must have that game when I first played it at a friends house. ANd it the first fighting game I really liked. Sure I have played Tekken 3 and 4 And another game called dead or alive. These are all very old games and I only played them cause my brothers wanted to play them with me. Bur SC4 is a game that I really like. And for those who have it, Can yu do the critical finish attack. I can and that attack is really nice.

I like the Soul series' storyline, but a game with good story but bad gameplay is played at most once, but a game with good gameplay is played many times, regardless of its story.
So, I ask again, how is Siegfried in SC4? Is he as good as he was in SC3? Also, how is the general gameplay? Does it feel more like SC2 or SC3?

Mvass I am not the one to answer your questions. I have only played SC4 not SC3 or SC2. But Siegfried in SC4 is cool and have nice combo attacks.

Wasn't Soul Calibur 1 called Soul Blade?
Anyway, if Siegfried has nice combo attacks in SC4 he's different from SC3. The SC3 Siegfried imo, was about timing those heavy attacks.

No, Soul Blade was Soul Calibur 0. Soul Blade came out first, for PS1. Then came Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast, then SC2 for PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox, then SC3 for PS2, then SC Legends for Wii, and now SC4 for PS3 and X360.

Agree with DoA, but not Tekken. Although I`m not sure about Tekken 6, they added a stupid "bounce" system that allows longer juggling combos. And tbh, juggling sucks big time.
Tekken is fairly different since it has no weapons (except Yoshimitsu), but I like them both.
I`ve played SC 3 and I agree, it`s a great game. My favorite are Lizardman and Taki (not because of her enormous breasts).

Tekken is fun, but it fails to make use of 3d, Soul Calibur's Horizontal/Vertical system makes for great strategies with the 8-Way movement system. There's nearly no way to know the opponent's attacks in Tekken, you just block and strike with a low, high or mid attack and hope for the best. The only moves I've really dodged in Tekken without taking chances is those fast-running kicks.
That's why Soul Calibur rocks the hell out of Tekken, Doa and most others, dodging.
EDIT: Another thing that makes Soul Calibur much better than Tekken is ring-outs, this coupled with the 8-way movement makes it really awarding to know your opponent.
For example. You're facing Astaroth who's got you close to a ring-out. You move horisontally and the most common Astaroth move (Afaik) is the circular-movement A+B move that hurls your opponent away a long distance, great for ring-outs, so you duck and dodge the high move, leaving Astaroth vulnerable. A good Soul Calibur player makes these calculations all the time.
I've played Tekken as much as Soul Calibur, but I've never really had to play with strategy in Tekken, but it's a MUST when playing Soul Calibur
