Become a Scholar of Ashan
Yeah, become a scholar of the world of Ashan. Research and tell us more about the climate of Ashan, the fauna, the High Trees of Irollan, hte history of the hydras, the customs of vampires etc. and contribute to the Ashan's World Encyclopedia.
I'll fo first. Ladies, gentlemans and deities, I introduce you the peasants. If this mysterious humanoid race is an enigma to you, or you want to learn new things about them, proceed.
The Peasant Race
Motto
"Dirt...potatoes...cabbage...democracy"
Facts and Traits
Aka: The slaves, the farmers, the inferiors
Associated Colors: gruesome grey, banal blue, shinny white (verry rarely)
Kingdom: N/A (being a slave race and lacking authonomy and independention, the peasants don't have a kingdom of their own)
Capital City: N/A (same reasons)
Core Philosophy: Aye, milord!
A Summary
Little is known by nobles about the mysterious peasants, apart from the fact that they must work hard despite their poor physical conditions. However, there are some sholars extremely interested by this race. Some claim they should eat in order to work better. Some claim they have feelings. Some would go as far as to claim that peasants are human beings.
These absurdities don't stop nobles to reject the peasants's rights. Therefore, these slaves are forced to work to the death. In exchange, they don't receive money. Actually, they have to give their gold to the masters. What would a peasant do with the money, in fact?
When the war comes, inevitabely, the nobles use the peasants as pawns in the game of greed and slaughter. despite being fragile, weak and slow, the peasants are verry used in warfare.
From moblie targets for training archery sessions to cannonfodder, the farmer race can be used for almost everything. A siege engineer even invented a peasant launcher.
The luckiest slaves get promoted to archers. This means an arrow in the bow and many, many more in the head, as archers are always targetted first by any enemy.
In these conditions, it is no wonder that massive peasant losses are a common thing. But, like the nobles say: " Uh...hmmm...I guess...this is the...life!...Garcon...some ale!"
Timeline
NOTE: Most people know about the existance of this timeline. Sadly, it doesn't include any information about the peasants. As a scholar, I consulted some tomes of ancient history and managed to create a PEASANT TIMELINE. It is actually o version of the old timeline, completed with information about peasants. (all new information is bolded.)
-139 YSD FIRST RECORD OF A PEASANT PRESENCE ON THE FACE OF ASHAN
First record of a peasant presence on the face of Ashan. Undoubtely, humans and elves knew of their existance long before this date, as peasants are one of the Elder Races. The only reason for such an ancient race was recorded so late is simple: writting was researched soon before, in -141 YSD.
The farmer race is mentioned in a document, the Book of the Races, extremely precious especially since many of these races becomed extinct.
The peasants feature on the 548th position, right before the fabled and majestic spider-pig or the wise orange-with-red-stripes squirell (as we see, not all Elder races were humanoids).
Soon after the year -139 YSD, a great volcano errupted in Ashan. after the clouds of brimstone finally lifted from the face of the earth, the scholars noticed with grat sadness the disparition of the fabled and majestic spider-pig and the wise orange-with-red-stripes squirell.
The peasants survived, but only to...
3 YSD BIRTH OF THE FALCON EMPIRE; THE PEASANTS FELL IN SLAVERY
Falcon the Great unifies the human kingdoms (founding the empire that will one day become the Haven faction). A prophecy tells that the Falcon line shall endure as long as the world does.
This newly-born empire eas a verry big step on the road of progress...backwards.
Falcon managed the performance to transform a series of peacefull and prosperous villages, each with it's own capable leader, in a bloody empire, threatened by famine and by a verry poor central authority.
The King (Big Falcon of course) and his nobles, elected from the most stupid and brutal people, showed their incompetence in leading a big human community.The blue-blooded people's only responsability was to drink beer and, occasionally, the tears of ordinary citizens, who endured the lack of a strong world market and the verry big inflation. Furthermore, the border zones were tormented by demonic attacks; their lieges were busy elswhere.
A few months passed, and the King, in a rare moment of lucidity, realized that, if all his inferior citizens die, nothing will make him superior anymore (he really was a smart guy).
He tooh initiative imediatelly, and started a grandious project: taverns, hangmans, colliseums, torture chambers and even toilets. In other words, anything his citizens would ever need.
Sadly, there was a little, little problem: the empire lacked a cheap working force to raise all the structures.
This little, little problem was quickly solved by the King, who made one of the wisest decisions in the history of the empire.
King Big Falcon chose the cheapest working force possible (an the most maleabel too): the peasants.
Ever since, the farmer race was the the Empire's slave, having to do all the work for no reward. If this situation will change, only future can tell...
48 YSD. THE FALCON EMPIRE BECOMES THE 'HOLY FALCON EMPIRE' FOUNDING OF THE FREE CITIES OF THE EAST
Emperor Brian Falcon gives absolute power to the Church of the Dragon of Light. The biggest change that occures is the following: instead of sacrificing peasants on alatrs for Sylath, the inquisitors sacrificied heretic peasants for Elrath. The Human kingdom is renamed "Holy Falcon Empire". Dissent grows among many citizens who resent being forced to abandon their faith in Sylath. Many will leave the Empire's territory to found the Free Cities of the East.
461 YSD. DISCOVERY OF NECROMANCY
Belketh, a disciple of Sar-Shazzar, discovers the path of Necromancy. The Holy Griffin empire sends a few hundreds a peasants to Belketh to salute his discovery. Necromantic experimentations begin in the Seven Cities...
751 - 770 YSD. PURGE OF THE NECROMANCRES - CIVIL WAR IN THE SEVEN CITIES
Jealous of the power acquired by the Necromancers, the Wizards of the Seven Cities initiate a large-scale persecution, ranging from the seizing of their properties, to banishment, to the spectacle of public executions
A long and gruesome civil war ensues. The ancient cities are destroyed and much of the land is rendered uninhabitable.
756 YSD. Death of Vaniel Vaniel is succeeded by king Alaron, whose eye is turned outward from the forest. Slowly, he re-establishes stronger contacts with the other races.
Alaron provided aid to the Wizards of the Silver Cities in their wars against the Necromancers, and encouraged traders to come to the elven borders.
771 YSD. FOUNDATION OF THE SILVER LEAGUE
Survivors of the Seven Cities establish the Silver League (the second kingdom of Magic) in the lands to the south. Necromancers flee east to the haunted valley of Heresh.
813 - 822 YSD. WAR OF THE BROKEN STAFF
The Necromancers attempt to crush the newborn Silver League but the Wizards gain the upper hand and invade Heresh. The Necromancers are utterly defeated and their kingdom shattered. It seems that those peasant corpses were way to fragile.
843 YSD. 4th ECIPSSE - FALCON"S LAST FLIGHT
A Total eclipse. This time, the Demons storm the capital of the Falcon Empire and massacre the royal house. As soon as the Demons are repelled, fighting breaks out as the various noble houses attempt to claim the throne. Duke Ivan of Griffin conquers the bloody crown. The Empire is renamed the ‘Holy Griffin Empire’.
To honour the new king, some verry somptous festivities are organized. As a part of it, peasants are dressed as griffins, are climbed on castle tops and are told to fly as a sign of hommage to the new king. Stubborn, all peasants refuse to fly, so the fall from the tops, finding their death.
