fyi ... now that the new season has started and ubi has enhansed the random map genarator, i wish only to play toh games with random town , random hero, and only buying the first two heroes in the tavern on day one. Let the fate of random determine our start. sadly i only play certain town types at best at novice level, but i challenge all toh players to play me with the above parameters to see if i can be a challenge to any one, that wants to play the game as it should be played. your comments about this challenge, would be appricated. thank you ubi for the best game ive ever played, BargainMon the "battered" footman.

just a quick advice/comment here. Random maps and towns is NOT fair at all. it may seem like a fair way to play but it is not. i am just giving you the example of the one player getting dirael for sylvan and the other haggash for stronghold. is that a game? no. play whatever you want guys, have fun. but if you are looking for fair games just choose

If you want to talk statistics instead each player gets 2/8 available native heroes which is pretty decent. I have been playing random for a long time now and have yet to get a 'bad' hero. That's the only way to prove that you can play well, prove that you can play all heroes. Since you get 2 heroes chances are you'll (almost)never have to use junk heroes much like Yrbeth.

Of course it then depends on the map. If you play a rushing map then it's blatantly unfair unless you both get heroes of the same level - reminds me when I was badly butchered week 3 as Anwen but a ferocious Kragh with a monstrous ballista on day of colossus However play a week 4-5 map and that's as fair as it gets. From that point on it's a matter of adaptability and using the advantages presented to you.

And do think about it. If the map cannot be rushed the slower heroes can catch up. If you know how to use them Don't learn to depend on one specific build to creep effectively.

Going random hero only increase the luck factor in game, and player have less control of the game ... H5 is turn based game, so it's depend very match on start conditions... The more powerful start hero you get, the more resources you get each turn, faster construct your town, faster get new reinforcements... Early advantage only grow over time... Why not to choose always the strongest hero but relay on luck ?

About random maps - random maps have balance, and can be even more balanced compared to custom maps ...
Custom map mean - sim turns at all cost, super guards making destruction magic dead for many factions and light magic with resurrection or dark the only choice to pass this guards... The same path game after game ...
Yes random maps are not perfect, but i ready to pay the price for the fun i get by not playing the same map over and over ... To avoid early fights on random map need to increase size of map, let's say huge size ...

Because it's lame and kills brain cells, no creativity. Of course it's another thing always picking Jhora than always picking Ingvar or Haggash.

PLus, i don't think that any legionnaire-ranked player and up has any problems creeping with any hero.

Playing fixed maps it's lame and kills brain cells, no creativity ... Choosing hero preserve the brain cells to more important things like choosing the right and efficient path on random map Something more about random maps - on random map new players have more chance against experienced players, example - Firedragon it's real killing/rush machine on Key to Victory, but on random map are still chances to beat him ...

Samiekl - "PLus, i don't think that any legionnaire-ranked player and up has any problems creeping with any hero."

Examples - on map Art of Strategy Willgefors take as main hero Ossir, i ask him why not Wyngaal ? He respond - to be successful on this map i need to pass wolfs on week 2 ... Ossir have no problems with that task, Wyngaal have problems with that ... on map Dragon Pass Lixue (one of the best Sylvan on UBI) take Ossir as main, same question from me - why not Wyngaal ? Response - Ossir can take utopia week 2, Wyngaal not ... Conclusion - not any hero can do the task ...

With 2 heroes to start you can always plan your game around which one you would prefer to use.

The above examples of ossir taking something earlier than someone else, just goes to prove that the "Great" player is relying on a crutch to make his game more favorable.

I think my very favorite example was a clan game I played once vs an "unknown Player"  we had a great deal of discussion in regards to random hero/chosen, who is and who is not acceptable.  To me.. I could care less, I don't care what hero you use, I will attempt to adapt.  But in this particular situation I believe his choice was wyngall (this is back in 2.2)  I said ok np.  I then chose Ingvar, immediatly clicking my check mark to start I was more or less assaulted with how terribly unfair it was for me to be picking Ingvar.  This was extremely confusing to me, since wyngall in 2.2 is clearly the mightiest of sylvan heroes (he is still broken back then).  So now I have the dilemna, I can choose not to play because I am not allowed to choose ingvar, or choose another hero and play anyway.  So I chose the worst hero I could think of.  I forget her name, she learns a rune with chance on level up, and starts with scholar?

The player got quite angry at me in the late stages of the game, as my army of 7 armageddon kamakaze mentored heroes came rushing into his area and drained his army horribly.  Finally my main came along and cleaned him up without loses, after 7-12 armageddons had hit his army.  It wasn't that I needed the kamakaze to kill the opponent, although it did make the game much much easier.  I just decided that since I was not allowed to choose my "best choice" I would make the absolute most out of the crew I had

Random hero is fine.  Just learn to play the game, not a hero.

It's not about to play a hero all the time, it's about the right to choose the hero for specific map/game/opponent...
If played right it's possible to rush Wyngaal say level 20 with kamikaze ? I think most of cases they don't have chance to cast Armaggedon, cos all army dead before hero move even with swift mind, no ?

lol look how the topic turns into another balance whining issue. Again the fun is lost with the way you guys hyperanalzye it to the bare core.

I'd rather play with Rethwen, Bargainmon, and Joetheloser for the very reason of avoiding this.

To Vesuvius - if no topics like that they simple recruit all random map players that come to TOH to fixed map party ... Diversity is the key to success
To Samiekl - hmm, need to think
For sure let say i will not take Sylvan Dirael or Ylthin as start hero vs orcs cos orc player will know for sure what magic i have and shatter it easily...

I'm full support Infinitus for choice race/hero from begining. Only this can be caled serius and "balanced" game. Both put his idea for play and give his best. This make game realy interest.
From other side all "n00bs" cray "how good players can play all heroes" and its lame to choice race/hero. So i'm play main random. this make oponent happy and give me big advantage...because i know well all races/heroes.

p.s.
For learn one race well you need to make minimum 10-15 games with this race and try all possible tactics. All random is bad if you want to learn game well.
