Tags / Enumerating posts?
It's been a long time that I find the need of these, but haven't actually admitted it. What do I mean by tags? Essentially this means that users can have the ability not only to place a link for another thread, but also point to a specific post. If you are familiar with html, then this means that we can have links of the form Quote: <a href="HC_thread_page#specific-post">NAME OF LINK</a>
where #specific-post reflects that option (hence in bbcode will have the form [*url="HC_thread_page#specific-post"]NAME OF LINK[/*url]). But of course in order for someone to be able to exploit such a feature, then the posts need to be named, and probably the easier way of doing so, is by simply enumerating them. I think the whole story of enumerating posts has also appeared in the past, but for another reason. Well ... here is another excuse on enumerating posts!
I don't know what are your thoughts on that, but personally, I find myself many times wishing that such a feature was implemented; basically because you want to say something and give a reference, but that other thread where you point to might have multiple posts by the same guy, or even many long posts in the sequence, thereby making it hard for someone to find out where you are pointing at or what you want to say.
If I can help on the php or mysql (<-- guess) part, count me in.

Also, what about Giving Numbers to Posts? When someone refers to post 15 on page 6, you don't have to count the posts anymore. Not nessecairy maybe, but handy at least.

Coincidence? I think not!!!!

It already works like that (the [url] stuff I mean) since you CAN post a link to a specific "place" in an internet page. However, not in this forum. The only problem is that the posts are not "named"...
btw dimis, you can write [url] and [/url] with a special trick (no need to write [*url]) Just quote this post and see how

Nice trick with [url]. I doubt I'll remember it next time I want it though..
And the idea was to work in THIS forum.
As of just giving numbers to posts ... well, the difficult part is to create and maintain such a counter. So, if someone can do that, it's nothing to baptize the posts with that counter. Plus this way you save scrolling. lol

Well the [url] tag of THIS forum works with #. For example, you CAN link to a specific part of a page in wikipedia.
The problem is that the posts aren't numbered.

Nope. That feature comes with html. All [url]...[/url] statements are translated naturally to <a href="something">NAME OF LINK</a> if you check the source of a page in any thread (that contains at least one link ). So, the feature is built-in just like you pointed out.
Too bad others don't state their opinion on that.

Another great idea would be to have something like [quote="Name"] like in CH, so that it would say: "XXX Wrote" and then the Quote...
But I think this has been said in the past.

Seconded. Both on the post # thing, link to specific post, and quoted name.

As far as I can think, all these things would be fairly easy to implement - for example, I'd be surprised if allowing linking to specific posts required any more than one line of PHP. I'd be happy to implement that sort of change, although I doubt that Val would allow it (of course, he shouldn't really).

Has this been at least considered? It would be very useful; I already "miss" it for the fact that it could improve the Peanut Holders table

I believe we have to wait for Val's decision, which might be expressed in this thread if he responds positively. The example you give is one of the many uses of this functionality.
Hopefully in time we 'll pass our message!
