How to choose tactics and strategy?
Just started playing homam3 again, I used to play it all the time when I was small (8 years old?),and not really thinking much about what I do. I did use some strategy and developed some techniques depending on the size of the maps and enemy, but it was mostly based on experience and no prediction,in depth analyzis, due to the fact that I never really cared .
Problem is, I was recently ehm challenged to a little competition just with some friends who started playing the game quite recently, and I dont know what I should do to win xD...
Most of the time when playing ( I ussualy played against computer, and could beat him almost everytime I think ), I chose castle, but Im not really sure since I was, like I said, about 8 years old. Before the patches I by myself actually made this style that I would buy the skeleton transformer in first round by necropolis, and buy lots of heroes ( mainly the tower ones and the ones with troglodites), transform them into skeletons, all done with necromancy, after the patches when you couldnt buy more heroes I never played necropolis again.
My style of playing was ussualy really simple, just get some heroes for exploring, maybe like 2 heroes with actual creatures... I ussualy chose castle/stronghold and sometimes fortress/tower, I didnt like the other ones. Castle on big maps, stronghold on small maps, since then I could rush in with the behemoths quite early. Also played fortress sometimes aswell, since you could do the wywerns in 1st day.
Im looking for basic tips on how to win on small/medium/big maps, which should I choose ( castle, inferno etc etc ).
I could see that most wrote here how it matters on my style, well firstly please tell me, what does the majority of top homam3 players play? I dont know the word , I mean if they play rampart,inferno.. etc. If it really is that it doesnt matter and really depends on the guy, then to describe myself a bit-
I like playing very well balanced(I play depending on the enemy, not the same against all,I like to adapt),stable games, prefferably creatures/heroes which arent agressive/defensive,maybe slightly more towards the agressive(IF I had to chose, or was playing against somebody the same good as me),dominant if I had to choose, so maybe Im a bit agressive, but I like my creatures to have lots of defense. So agressive with mainly defensive skills if I may say so ,not that agressive, but slowly, steadily getting control. Which do you think would suit me?
Thanks in advance
And please dont forget some basic tips, just so I can beat some of those begginers Ill be playing .

Aggressive = might heroes
lots of defense = Fortress
conclusion: Choose Fortress and Tazar

It really depends do you play normal H3 without any additional rules, or the opposite is the case. But I don't really think that you want to win by abusing game imbalances . Just have fun and make your best

Angelito is right Tazar=defense.I was playing a game not long ago,i was Stronghold and my friend Fortress.I had all upgraded creatues from 3-6 and Behemots. He always pressed defense button so i went on attack,i barely won.And my hero stats where higher than his.

Basic tips? Try to learn how to play with all towns.
It will improve your game, knowing what you can fight at a certain point and what not is everything in h3..and you will have to learn that when you fight with other creatures.

Well Im not a purely defensive person, but how to say it...
I dont like pure attacking either, Im more of a control guy, I like to steadily, get better control over the map, then, once Im sure that I can beat the enemy I attack. I dont like taking chances.
Its not like Im defensive, in the sense that I like running away from the enemy, hiding in my castle... , but I dont like attacking him either. I just dont like backing away, and I figured if I play agressive I end up doing mistakes and having to back away from a strong enemy aswell. But I guess it matters on your point of view what is what.
But basicly said I like really balanced things, the most balanced the best for me . Which is the most balanced?
Is there some way I can for example check a demo ( like in quake3/whatever) to see some good 1v1 game that some 2 really good guys played? Maybe with some explanation of why theyr doing what. Im sure I could figure this by myself with time, but it would take much longer .

If you check the library here, especially the Table of Content (sticky thread first page), you will find tons of threads refering to strategy, starting heroes, creature abilities and so on for EACH town.
Be diligent...

The most balanced faction really doesn't exist. All towns can be successful if played in right conditions, but, on average, Necrolis is vastly, and Conflux quite overpowered. Unless you are excellent players other towns are generally mutualy very competitive, and Inferno perhaps slightly inferior to others IF you don't demon farm.

It all depends on what template u play.

Necro is easy if in early game(2,3weeks),Conflux can be a pain in the bud,why 4 birds/week??but still is weak, unless has lots of birds.

Xarfax behavior in his opened topic "How many Skels can you drain by attacking a horde of wandering Pit Lords?" is also no less than spam and utterly childish behavior. He posted something looking to start a discussion and than chose not to respond for days, making people that invested their time in it look plain silly, while in fact the only silly person is the thread author. I wasn't going to post anything for the man could simply be time lacking, but his appearance here tumbled down that possibility.

Your posts in the PDF only speak well of you - as they rightfully should.
But your behavior in this matter in completely unrelated to that, and speaks ill of you. It is bad manners what you did/are doing - punktum.

So what hero would you choose starting Fortress with? Both in the long run and short run?
