Damn, enough with the offtopic posts. I see you going around all the time Geny saying for people to stop off topic, yet you and others create off topic even in (probably) the most serious forum here.

Relax Will. What he posted was responsible enough, you don't want him to be serious all the time? And seriously after all that has been said there is not much more to add here unless another point is raised. That said it really got derailed, I'm sure you guys can restrain yourselves better hmm?

If they go for a new star color I would vote something not on the same color chart as red and yellow. But that's besides the big idea..

I read a lot of what was said, and I feel there should be a way members could thumbs up one post a day, and with so many thumbs ups get a new star, but you shouldn't be able to vote for the same people over and over, there should be a variation of at least 10 people before you can vote again on same one. This is so people wont form groups and give each other daily stars.  I know this isn't the idea of the thread but it's main goal is the same.

and PS I left because I felt blackballed.. I felt people got used to me to the point the would skip my posts.. But that's besides the point also.

We had many discussions about similar topics & I will say the same thing as i said to all these ideas.
Bad idea.

Mostly because mods would judge people by giving out Orange Points which I will call OP for now on

Some people feel they are making quality posts or they try their hardest.
It's judgmental.
People can feel bad because they are judge by how they post.

Some people behave differently.
Some are more straight forward then others.
Basically good attitude

Slight improvement. Some dont see it that way, or some dont want to hear it from certain members. You got to remember, this HC also involves favortism.

Guiding new members. I can see saying hi but they can read the COC, they can figure it out. It's not that hard to figure out the community. I seen about 5 % of noobs being helped. The other 95% turned out ok.

What is contributing? What exactly do noobs have to do to earn this OP? Do they have to pay money? Do they have to pucker up? Do they have to play every game on the board?

You need to understand that certain members has a better chance to getting this OP then others. Those who get a OP might not be deserving. Some who might be deserving may not get them. Mods has favorites & dislikes. I could make a story about history. Someone else can make a story about a whole crossing under a rainbow, & the person with the rainbow story would get the OP because mods are more interested.

Basically it will cause more friction because who knows who deserves it.
I already see many of yall crying about many people deserving QP's when they really dont .
Not you William, that music rocked

Thats all for now from the OP to the OG

Hence, my suggestion: any member would be able to give out Awesome Points. (As I'll call them )

Members giving out any kind of points is a bad idea. That is very open to abuse. what about members who don't like certain other members? Then that means that other member might be a bit excluded and may not get any. Hardly what I would call fair.

Plus, what's wrong with this system that we have now anyway?

JapanGamer:
There's nothing to stop two friends from giving each other awesome points, but right now there's nothing to stop two friends from going around and saying that the other's post is awesome, and it's not a problem.

William:
If a member isn't well-liked, then he/she doesn't get as many awesome points. Simple as that. Awesome points, unlike QPs, wouldn't confer any benefit other than their own presence. Kind of like post count. What's to stop a Promising member from posting all the time and trying to get a whole bunch of yellow stars? Nothing, but it doesn't really happen on a scale that is problematic. Same here.

Quote:
Plus, what's wrong with this system that we have now anyway?
Because many members post stuff that isn't QP-worthy, but is commendable anyway. (For instance, unusually funny responses in the "What do you see in the picture" thread.) Or some of Corribus's OSM posts, or Bak's amusing posts elsewhere. You can't shower people with QPs. It doesn't work that way. But with Awesome Points, such a flaw would be remedied.

@ Mvassilev

So members can give out Awesome points but they do absolutely nothing? That just sounds like a waste of time even implementing. On other forums, I have seen exactly the thing you are talking about, where members can give points to a member. But it is, most of the time, abused and people end up with a crazy amount of points, and in the end it's just ridiculous, and often I see them taken off the forum because of abuse. Now, I'm not saying that it would happen here, but what's the point of going through the trouble of implementing them here when they do nothing?

The post count is in every single forum, so we can just forget about that for now. Now QP's had to be implemented in here by Valeriy and like everyone knows, they actually do something and they do have some kind of purpose and rewards when you get more of them. So you want Valeriy to implement yet another kind of star that the members can all give but they do nothing? Just seems like a waste of time.

And it's not fair if some people are excluded because they don't have as many friends/are not as popular as some other members. the more popular members are of course going to get more Awesome Stars, as you like to call it. It doesn't seem fair to me. Good thing about QP's is that the Moderators give those out to people and every single member has a chance of getting a QP if they make a quality post. It doesn't exclude anyone, whereas your system might.

If you want to commend somebodies post, then you can just send them a HCM or say so in the particular thread that their commendable-worthy post is in. The Picture thread is a poor example (in my opinion) since Omega (or whoever runs it) just says whether the posts were funny or not at the end of the round. If Corribus, or any other member makes a good post in the OSM or somewhere else and no one has noticed it, then what's to stop you from posting in the Feedback thread of that forum and directing a moderator to where the post is?

What do you mean by "turn into". From what centuary are you? 16th? Dude HC members are the poo, yo! No need to turn awesome if we already are awesome.

EDIT: And to be somewhat on topic so noone will delete my post as petty spam here are my 2 cents.

Guys... what do you need an extra "offical" star for if you want it to compliment somebody?
Quote:
You can't shower people with QPs.

Well yes and thank god no ones asking for that. But what keeps you from telling somebody that they made an awesome reply or that they said something which you thought was really cool? If someone makes me a honest compliment that is infinitly more rewarding to me than any freakin star you can give me. So what's the deal you want to push a button to be able to "compliment" somebody instead of just sending him a HC telling him that you liked his post?

And I mean even if you think it's too tiering to always sends HCM (lol) you don't need to. The moment you made someone laugh or someone liked your post you are instantly rewarded by "recognition" or whatever it is that makes you remember Baklava for being funny, DS for being spammy, etc. Catch my drift?

EDIT 2: Haaha I should really first read this thing before I reply... of course my pointy eared friend had already pointed things out quite nicely. Just for you guys to know what I'm talking about:

Yes, that's the idea. Also, it would keep track of how many Awesome posts a member has made.

But maybe you guys are right. I don't know.

Come on that's just lazy... Besides as I already said someone telling you that you/your post rocks is so much cooler than seeing and stupid star count go up. But maybe that's just me?

Oh and I don't know... you say it keeps track of how many "awesome" posts a guy made? Well I don't know how "real" the number would be since everybody would get to vote. So if a person finds something funny that I think is absolute bull-s-word which means poo he'll get an awesome point lol. It's totally broken. But yeah I guess I'm just conservative!!

Long live the personal compliment!!
EDIT: Mwuahahaa Sinfest my dearest friend of course has an apropriate example
