BTW, I hope none of you thinks the army is some kind of a super adventure where you learn to be like Rambo or something. Even in Israel it's nothing like that (unless you're in some high class combat unit) and we're living in readiness for war all the time.

Well, it started with an angry little bee in TOH whom we inexplicably tolerated. It continued with avoiding it completely (maybe it'd be better if he was tossed around, if ya catch the drift, oh well) Then this little bee disappeared.

Suddenly there's a rootkit in my hard drive.

yeah... causality FTW!

Really dude, you need at least the diploma (like mvass said) from the school... I'm just thinking... if this can happen to me too... I'm going to die by hunger...

um... I hope you'll manage to fix your problems.

What's your complaint? In Bulgaria most of the peaple are with 0,27-1,25 lv (1 US dollar is 1.45 levs), and we were much better than Poland back in the communism...

Can't believe I'm saying this () but I agree with what TheDeath has said in this thread. I think it is much better to teach yourself things that you want to do. I mean, how exactly is a religion class going to help me if I want to make music or work in the IT industry? It won't, and there are many other useless classes that I did that just won't help me for the things that I want to do. Plus, teachers usually have to devote their teaching to all of the class, and not just one particular person because they are trying to get everyone to understand something and this can sometimes be difficult to follow, well for me anyway, which is why when I teach myself things, I actually remember and learn much more quickly than if a teacher were to teach me.

I'm sure that if you study up on the things that you want to do and devote a lot of time to practicing and getting better, then it might work out for you in the end. Plus, you have quite a good job that has good pay so there is nothing to worry about. You'll do just fine.

This is what modern society is, and there's nothing you can do about it. If you wish to manage your in life, you will just have to accept it. Complaining doesn't help you any bit and neither does cutting off school.

That's not "modern" that's actually a pretty old system. I have no idea about other subjects but there have been more freelance programmers in the past years than before.

(or if you want to get employed at a company like ID software back in the day, they accepted talent rather than papers. Even some EA manager confessed that great games come from the developers doing "freely" and how they think something should be done rather than strict inspection and orders and possibly talentless people)

You're talking about some examples which are not numerous.
Believe me, papers will do the trick almost all the time.

Of course and so I said as well. What is now is changing, compared to what was "old" (i mean some years back). Or look at the "prizes" big corporations assign for certain problems (Microsoft, Google, etc) -- sure that's not a job, but suffice to say it's changing the attitude to more talent than on papers.

Sure there ARE a lot of people that still demand old fashioned way. I don't deny that.

There are no parents in the world that want their kid to go to the streets, drop out of school, and start his life from nothing. Edn, this is not how life of a 17-18 years old teenager should look like. You can go home. Your parents will be happy to have you back. You can finish school, and have a life with a career, more money, a better place to live in.

Even right now you can get back and get things okay. Please do it before it's too late.
You can even go back only for one year, finish school and then leave again.

No matter what is your choice, we're here with you.

If they don't want to give you a house, perhaps they can help you with the costs of renting the apartment?

Hey, don't worry about "career". Despite what mvass says, education ends up worthless in the poorer countries - perhaps in yours (a Rich one after all) its different. In mine, most of the rich people never went beyond high school.

Finding a job seems necessary in your situation but a "job" should never be a priority in life anyway imo

permanent posts suck

The best you can do in your life is to have your own business.. not to work for someone's future. But to work for your own

In Poland it's impossible without being rich in the first place because starting own business requires opening capital, and if you're not rich you will never have enough unless you work for 2 years without eating and save every penny. But in Norway... hmm.

Education most of the time ends up with unemployed magistrates in Poland. Imho education is a waste of time if you want money. I am aiming for doctorate for my own reasons, definitively NOT because I will earn a lot of money because of it (actually, quite the opposite).

I agree. And also, look at some of the most successful people in the world. Many of them never finished High School because they dropped out. I'm sure you will do well, EDN.

Doomforge:
Education is useless? How far would you get if you couldn't read, write, or do arithmetic? And it stretches credibility when you say that education is a waste of time if you want money. First, without education, your business is much less likely to succeed. Second, Russia is a poor country too, but education goes a long way towards making someone richer. Compare an uneducated peasant to a Moscow engineer.

Not starving should never be a priority in life?

William:
Did Bill Gates drop out of high school? Did Warren Buffet? Sure, many did in the past, but a lot more people dropped out of school in the past, but much less so now. Education is more important than ever.
