No, you don't have to pay a monthly fee.
Yes, you should buy it. Let's just say that NWN 2 is GOD. You wont see too many RPGs like this one.

It was a very good game but if you were used to the original's interface it may take you some time getting used to it. Otherwise graphics, dialogues, mood, skills make for a complete game. Just on thing make sure you patch it before playing as the original version had way too many bugs. And do not for any reason miss mask of the betrayer, one of the best expansions ever

Yes, it's one of the best times I had when creating a character and believe me when I say that it's something I actually dislike in RPG's (heck, just give me a class and point in some random direction and I'm happy). I liked the interaction with your friendly NPC's who seemed a bit human, now.

Indeed though if you don't know the skills and feats it can take a while Unless you take the recommended ones. And of course the story is better, the original was.. Not extraordinary mind you but pretty decent.

Yes, it's pretty easy to screw up your character build in D&D based games if you're not familiar with the system

The first one is pretty forgiving. I had the worst warlock build imaginable, but I still managed to finish the original one.

Game is very good. Story in the addon is awesome and epic, but the base does not fall much behind - it especially has awesome NPCs.
I didn't get involved in the multi but I was told it is great fun - it is truly a RPG.

Am I the only one that liked the non-linear progression of earlier D&D's statistics more?
there was a huge difference between, say, STR 19 and STR 20, and much lower between STR 14 and STR 15.
I dunno why, but I liked it. It was like omg str 22 omg he rulez. Getting another point of STR felt really rewarding.
And now it's just another linear no fun stuff, since 2 points of STR more mean just a pitiful +1/+1 bonus, which is pretty negligible.
As for NWN2, yeah it was good, just unfinished. And it had the worst romance system I've ever seen. I like romances in crpgs. The ones we got in NWN2 weren't even pathetic. They were beyond pathetic.
oh and the imbalance.. yeah I am a bit crazed about it, but the game wasn't balanced well.. MOTB was way too easy with one of the powerbuilds (especially figter/weapon master/frenzied berserker with falchion specialization..). My char was so ridiculously powerful that it was boring. Come on, a demi lich that goes down after two swings.. yeahh. "Fun". Whatever.

What romance system Though I hear that you can do some funny things to Kasavir if you are evil. Yeah forget about romance.

No, I even created a thread in the Altar some time ago, suggesting that Spellpower and other stats in heroes should not progress linear

I too preferred that but I also remember that 12-14 did not give any bonus unless I'm mistaken. The nwn system looks bland in comparison, stats don't count unless they end in 2, 4, 6 meh.
Speaking of which I preferred THACO to attack bonus

thac0 was unnecessarily complicated imho. Since it was based on comparing two numbers anyway, attack bonus is much more clear while working the same way.
as for the romance.. lol I wished Casavir would say "let's not talk about old owl well please" for once.
