Heroes - and their actions.
Now, I'm not 100% sure about how this would work, but my idea is that you buy a basic hero at a tavern, he could be a human, dwarf - whatever races are available, and as he levels up - and depending on his faction and skills - his appearance would change. All the heroes would have a special ability, but that special ability could adapt as he levels up to his faction (e.x - Armorer - creatures take 5% less damage or whatever. But as he levels up and takes necropolis skills like necromancy, his armorer would change to dark armorer - creatures take 7% less damage and have a chance to cast corrosion on whoever is attacking it)
For example: You start out with a necropolis, and buy a human hero in the tavern. Now, the human starts out with a regular horse, but as he levels up and picks some necro skills - he and his horse would start to change (the change would be periodical, as in every level he changes a little). For every necro ability the heroes armor would turn darker, and eventually would have a dark cloud around it e.t.c. And the same thing would happen to the mount.
What I'm not sure about is if the transformation should be dependant on the skills, or the castle. Probably the skills, but then it wouldnt make sense if you would have a life spell oriented heroe whose troops are all necros. (btw, I can totally imagine an all life skill heroe - he would have shining armor and a halo on his head)
OR, the transformation could be dependant on the heroes troops as well as skills. If he has undead troops for a long time - he will transform into a death knight.
I just think it would be cool if you could buy a completely neutral hero in a tavern, and change him to the heroe you want him to be.
So he would start as ''Bob, the lone wanderer'' and as he progresses in the life tree he will change into ''Bob, The knight''. (like heroes 4)
Its just an Idea, so dont flame please =/

I think H4s title system was very good and I think there should be an option to show you your heroes armor.
So if my Ranger hero had "Windwalker Boots" or "Battleguard Helm" then it should be visible.
Kind off like in a MMO or RPG.

The fact that the hero changes his appearance based on his skills somewhat is interesting, but I don't really like to hire a main hero from another faction
But it's an interesting idea. For example, a Light Magic Necro should look a little different than a Dark Magic one (but they are still both are Necromancers). But of course, this will be a lot of headache for developers I think

1st- I totally agree with the looking like an mmo idea.
2nd- it would be a headache, but if they would figure it out - it would be pretty kicka**.

A seriously interesting concept. I think you'd need to have two types of heroes, national and wandering. National heroes would stay within their own towns (eg. a Necromancer would never appear in an academy tavern) and come pre-trained in their racial skill, but wandering heroes would be available in any tavern (albeit there might have to be some sort of chance of each type appearing) and wouldn't come with their racial skill or any racial based specialities, though they would retain their own stats and skill advancement rates.
Not sure about how the actual appearance would work, but i guess that could be sorted out later.

I like the ideia! anf if you wont make your knight learn dark magic/necromancy, but light magic, defense and other "good" skills, the 'simple' knight will become a holy crusader! *.* with a shining gold armor, a halo on his head!! *.*
and a Ranger with pathfinding, scouting, etc gets 'an air' of scout using leafs camouflage *like the hunter!
yes! i like this ideia very much!

It's a good idea which I like, but for the developers will be a "bonus" work
So I don't see it in H6

And racial perks (Gatemaster, March Of The Golems, etc.) would actually require a basic level of racial skill, though mere race-based perks (Resistance, Stand Your Ground, etc.) would be okay, provided you couldn't get more than 5 per skill altogether.

I must admit that although the idea is fun, I think it's totally unrealistic in terms of the amount of work it would require to implement. The hours needed to make, say, 100 different skins for the Necromancer class alone seems to me pretty much a waste considering how minimal the impact on gameplay would be. Eye candy is nice, be we have to be realistic in our priorities also.

That's true, hadn't thought of it that way (each wanderer would need as many skins as there were towns, then multiply that by the number of wanderers...).

This is 2008 not Diablo 2. We are using 3D, attachments, shaders, mip-maps, etc. I can hardly image warcraft 3 with 12 skins for each model because of team color.

No, but each creature would have 4 skins, one for serving with each race, I meam, you can't possibly expect an elf in the Necropolis to dress the same as an elf in the Academy.

It would take alot of work, but it would add another dimension to the game. right now the hero development is mostly skills and magic, and (at least for me)it gets boring after a while because all heroes are technically the same. If this would be added, it would make hero development at least 3 times as fun, and would therefore encourage the player to play for longer. I seriously think they should invest the time in this.
