Nickname
Helmric means Protective Rule.
I have had this persona name since 1987, when I used to be in the Society of Creative Anachronisms, SCA for short.
My full name in the SCA was Helmric, Golden Bear of Northumbria. My persona was a Saxon Barbarian who enjoyed bashing knights! LOL. Those not familiar with the SCA, it is a medievel recreation society where you dress in period garb and if you feel up to it, battle in full armor with rattan weapons. You can earn a knighthood and if good in combat, become king.
As a barbarian, it was much more fun fighting the knights than to become one.

My nickname means "sound waves that cannot be heard or are hard to hear".
At first I had many nicknames. On Polish forums my usual nickname was Chrzaniak (don't bother to spell that). After a few years I decided to join some international forums. I thought that name "Chrzaniak" wouldn't really fit there, would it? I remember when I tried to send an PM (personal message) on another community, to a German guy. He had 'o' with two dots above in his nick and my keyboard wasn't really prepared for that. I spent a lot of time installing german font and then uninstalling it. After that I thought that I don't want to be a "German guy, whose nickname is not really understandable".
Although I knew that my nickname should be nice and international, I had no idea what it should be. I asked my friends, read 4 fantasy book (I even wanted to have a nick "Drizzt" ). Nothing. Nothing, which would be good. I even started to write down everything that came to my mind (when I look at that list today, I get shocked - how come Al Qaeda is there?!). Time was passing, tic toc, tic, toc and I still didn't have any idea for my nickname.
My DnD friends told me to have some DnD name, but I told them that I want something original (after all, Regdar doesn't really sound nice). During a science lesson, teacher told us about specific sound waves that cannot be heard. Well, I liked that. At first, I wanted to call myself Hypersonic, but it didn't really work ("I am not hyper, it is just a ******** nick!"). Supersonic was born. And he lives untill today. Happily

Loknar is a character from Master of Orion II, which used to give me a lot of fun. He's a totally alien relic of a very advanced, but extinct ancient culture, the Orions (which were defeated by the Antarans, I guess), and actually the only individual in this game.
When you manage to conquer the very juicy Orion system which is defended by a strong monster, the Guardian, you rescue Admiral Loknar, the Last Orion. He adds an excellent and very fast ship, the Avenger, to your fleet and gives you some fancy tech like the Death Ray or the Damper Field, which cannot be obtained by normal research. Furthermore he's bringing Galactic Lore to your empire, which makes you overview the entire galaxy. Freeing him early normally means winning the game.
I also thought it unoccupied in HC. Draw your own conclusions at wish.

Interesting origin for your name. You are aware it is the evil artifact from the original Heavy Metal movie as well?

Whoops I stumbled over this thread and felt the urge to answer the call.
I will cut the story of my nick to a short version.
First my nick was Gorgon, you know after those extremely cool and fearsome beasts from HOMM3
But then I realized a lot of other people on the net were thinking the same thing. So often the nick was taken. So I need to change it. So it was changed to Gussgon for a while, since Guss was a co-worker of a friend of mine. And the name was just so ridiculous I just had to use it But you know, Gussgon sounds like a sexual disease or something so I changed that to Gorguss. And it's been that way for some years now. Unfortunately, a lot of people miss spell Gorgeous, and Gorguss, so the damned name is occupied again by people with writing disabilities.
Usually it's something like this: "Oh, he was so gorguss I wanted to hug him" usually referring to a dog or something. It's annoying. It annoys me. Damnit!

This is not my real nickname. Mine is KerttuMies. Yes, it is Finnish. I got it 'cause I have a bike that has ladybugs on it. It is super cool bike. And we call it the LadybugMobile. So my first word in my nickname is the last word of finnish name of Ladybug, Leppäkerttu. And the last word came from batman, or was it superman the last word in it, man, is called in Finnish mies. So that's how I got my nickname. And you can see the name in my signature.
PS. Who can understand this----> Mutta oikeasti mua kutsutaan nalleksi, tai no tytöt kutsuu. Johtuu kait mun silmistä tai jotain. Joten oon joko nalle tai KerttuMies.

My nick comes from my real name Joonas and the letters To.
But my real firstnames Joonas and Juhani are both different versions of the same name: Johannes. So that is quite odd if you think about it.
To CaptLoser: Kerttumies tai nalle...onpahan nimet. No on niitä ollu miullakkii, mutta jätänpähän kertomatta.

My nickname is a combination of the Vampire (The Masquerade) clan (Setite) I played in Chicago: Dark Requiem and "tart" is something I am constantly being called because of my attitude.
Overall, I'd say the nickname fits.
It has stuck for....about 10 years now. LOL

Well anyone who played heroes 2 knows the phoenix thing was the coolest thing around.
After not having a computer for some time (four years) I bought one and got heavily back into gaming. I bought some crummy strategy games (warlords iv) but didn't get seriously hooked until heroes v which rekindled my love for heroes series.
It seemed appropriate to choose phoenixreborn as a handle for the heroes forums since my love for the games had been rebirthed.

There is not much behind mine Some time back I had gotten Neverwinter Nights, an amazing game especially with hordes of the underdark and Elvin Gel'fer was my first character, an elven fighter grim, dedicated with a sense of goodness and justice even if it was not accomplished by lawful means. It was a fresh start in a new world that I enjoyed but I eventually grew to dislike him as my next characters were far more interesting and fun to play with.
When I restarted baldur's gate 2 I used Elvin as the name of my kensai fighter with single katana style and a more lawful outlook of life coupled with a touch of neutrality at times. Completing the game with him and carrying over to throne of Bhaal I had breathed life into a character with certain companion interactions, personal choices and character development. His choices were not too far from my own and I grew to like him.
Shortly after I was about to join HC and it popped to mind as it was already something familiar. Of course there were other options so chance did play a role in this I never use classic or too popular names and this one sounds good while being easy to type.
A year later it feels like a second name
Funny because quite a few people have asked me if it's my real name
