The story of Mita and the Deadly Virus
An essay on Internet
Or
The story of Mita and the Deadly Virus
There are many things to say about the Internet. But in this essay, we are not interested in the information, we don’t want to pinpoint the key moments of the Internet, we just want to give a general overview, using stories of real people, stories that are somehow related to our present subject.
For instance, I remember really well that there was a lovely lady, about sixty years old who was living all by herself in a dusty block of flats in the ancient world of the Sixth District. One can wonder what contacts with the Internet this person could have had. And usually, we imagine that older people somehow despise Internet. But this story is a little different. It’s the story about Internet, addiction, drug dealing and other little problems. I heard the story from my grandmother, who also heard it from a neighbor and so on and so forth. As a matter of fact, I accidentally found out the name of the character, a name that can be very suggestive in depicting his mentality. Her name was Mita. In a way, she was a very conservatory person. One could also think that she was just ‘an old-fashioned hag’, who liked gossip and smoking, but mostly she liked complaining about her very small pension. One day, her daughter, who thought her mother had died, paid her a visit. Mita was very surprised to see her. The first thing she did was to burst into tears. Then she started complaining about her lack of support and so on and so forth. The daughter was extremely disappointed for seeing her mother still alive. Then, she decided to end this endeavor and after a week or two, she brought the old lady a computer and set her an Internet connection. She didn’t have to wait very long. Three months after she heard that Mita was not feeling so well. The Internet had a nice secondary effect on the woman. She died petrified with fear a year after these gorgeous events. So, what happened after her daughter bought her the computer?
The first week, Mita not only did she spit on the Samsung Display, but also intended to call the priest to exorcise the demonic machinery. A week later, she started blustering in front of her neighbors about her Internet connection. So she found out that it was not so bad after all. Everyone started loving her more and more. There was no gossip that she missed. Everyone told her everything. So she started ‘surfing’ the Internet. She subscribed on the Asociatia Pensionarilor organization, she even joined the homonymous political party. She posted a lot of comments on the pensioners’ forum on www.guvernulromaniei.org, abundant in insults and threats towards the Prime–minister, the President and the Patriarch of The Holy Romanian Orthodox Church, comments depicting her will to obliterate their beings from the face of the Earth and many other things that we cannot say in an English class. Of course, her comments were very much appreciated by the politicians, mostly because they didn’t care about what she was saying. The only thing they did was banning the old lady from the forum and warning her that she was going to be in big trouble. The ban she received upset her so much that a few days she kept crying and crying. After that, she regrouped; she started ‘surfing’ the Internet more and more, trying to find a way to enter the Government’s forum. Unfortunately, she found a website about a drug dealing company, a respectable corporation that not only used drugs as a hobby, but also liked sharing their interest with other people. The ignorant lady pressed many buttons. No one knows if she has submitted a request to distribute heroin on the streets of the Sixth District or if the President of the corporation found that it would be great having a sixty year old woman employed in his business. The police visited her and placed her under arrest for drug dealing a few days later. The woman was released after a few hours at the local police station, where she confessed that she had no recollection about any drug incident. The woman’s energy started fading away. Anyhow, what really buried her morale was the virus she got from the Internet. After she heard that a virus was inside the machine, she went completely mental. She disinfected it with surgical alcohol and, as she saw it had no effect what so ever, she decided not to spread the disease and thus create and epidemics. She put the computer on fire in front of her apartment on a lovely December morning.
What followed shortly after was really obvious. Mita went crazy, she was locked away in an asylum and her daughter finally moved in the old Sixth District apartment with her young family.
I met their kid a few days ago. He told me that his grandma died and he told me what her last words were: “Mama lor de porci…”

The part with the international drug-dealing corporation which hires random 60 year old ladies to spread heroin across Romania is my favourite
I don't even want to know what “Mama lor de porci…” means

@Asheera: No, thanfully no. It's just a story. Btw, the 6th District means "Sectorul 6" (for those who know Bucharest). It's the town's best zone (regardin people), and I happen to live in it. Happy me...
@Baklava: Well, you don't want to know what it means. (I think it's pretty obvious now)

Yeah and one that doesn't show on autopsy or doesn't incriminate you as well.

When you’re digital, you can live much longer, you can be around for thousands of years. So 13 years is like 13 minutes to them.
