Did Alc know it all the time and was playing along?
When I read that thread (before knowing it was a joke), my respect for the Mods here (except Alc and a few others) dropped to near zero.
I still have some 'problems' accepting it was a joke from the start... all those penalties and pranks about William from the first few pages? Were they all planned for this joke?
I hope I'm wrong though and this is off-topic anyway
Oh and even as a joke I didn't like it at all. ADAM would have been enough in my opinion (handling some random penalties on the 1st day of April). Some jokes are just taken too far and this one falls in that category.
[off-topic seriousness off]

We spent a month making that thread and then it was moved to Wastelands on the day of April Fools.
I wouldn't say taking it too far. I'd say going all out.
Alci became mod right before April Fools and he didn't realize that our fake Current Thingies was a planned joke. So we ran with that idea to make it seem more realistic.
And btw, there's no Current Thingies 2, 3, or 4. I added the 5 to make it look like there was reason for a new one to just pop up there.
Well there could be a 2, 3, and 4 now. I haven't been in there for close to 18 months now.
Years ago, we used to be able to know that Current Thingies existed, since there was a Top 10 largest threads list on the homepage of HC. And back then Current Thingies had a lot of posts, so we knew it was a thread that we couldn't read in the Modsquad.

Like any of us are actually going to make a new Current Thingies thread. Good one.
It's about a 150 pages long now.

Alright, since RSF asked me to come up with a contest idea for them, here goes.
Thread: Current Thingies 5
Contestants: MightyMage, RedSoxFan3
Challenge:
Show us the most ridiculous proposal for spam prevention outside of the Wastelands. Include graphs and statistics or something if you like.
Apparently you people can continue claims if you like.

Thanks! I fixed the mistake.
Since people posting claims and challenges in the thread now, I think its fair that those who claim a thread first, own it. Then the second person can no longer claim that thread and has to challenge the other person instead. This means the first person to claim is defending.
On an additional note for tiebreakers...
Case 1:
The defender is tied for first place. The defender keeps the thread.
Case 2:
Two or more challengers are tied for first place, with the defender having fewer votes. The challenger who posted the challenge first wins the thread.
Example 1:
I challenge Woock for Mark Your Territory - The Revival. MightyMage declares Guerilla Tactics and joins the fight. Lord Woock get 2 votes, I get 4 votes and MightyMage gets 4 votes. I win the thread, since I challenged Woock before MightyMage did.
Example 2:
William challenges me for Pistachio Dungeon. Baklava and Geny use Guerilla Tactics. However Baklava sent his contest entry before Geny. Baklava and Geny both receive 4 votes, William 2 and me 1. Baklava wins the thread, because he submitted his entry first.
Example 3:
William challenges Lord_Woock for Mark Your Territory - The Revival.
I use Guerilla Tactics. William doesn't like the contest entry and gets Lexxan to use Relentless Crusade for support. I receive 3 votes, Woock receives 2 votes, William receives 1 vote, and Lexxan receives 2 votes.
The William/Lexxan team received a total of 3 votes tying with me for first place. Even though I submitted my entry before Lexxan, William made the initial challenge, so William wins the thread.
