I won't comment on Chaotic Neutral since I'm tired of it but I'll just say that, as Neutral Good is the most benevolent alignment, Neutral Evil is actually the most malevolent and evil of alignments.Quote: The neutral evil path becomes evident as the middle road between the two opposite approaches to the precept of banefulness. The neutral evil character values both order and freedom as useful tools in the acquisition of personal power through the spread of evil. Any means that further their own agenda are embraced by neutral evil beings. The flexibility of this alignment ensures that a course of maximum evil is pursued and is not limited by considerations of either law or chaos. Structured and random acts of evil are both part of the arsenal of the neutral evil villain, who is concerned with advancing evil in the short-term and long-term. Thus, the neutral evil character will work with anyone, lawful evil, chaotic evil, or otherwise, who can aid them in their quest for total power over others. The neutral good alignment is diametrically opposed to neutral evil, so the neutral evil being is opposed to any social order that allows goodness to flourish. By destroying the works of good creatures, neutral evil beings hope to create a world where the powerful and capable are able to secure maximum benefit for the self and maximum woe for all who oppose them.

meh i read a lot of "official" quotes considering Chaotic Evil the most evil one.
and besides, my system with simple 'combinations' can cover all major attitudes. So it's not flawed

Neutral Evil is probably the most dangerous. Chaotic Evil is the most evil.
So what am I? I took the test and got Lawful Neutral. Yet I am not a moral absolutist in the traditional sense, and have no particular love for authority. In fact, I'm very individualistic. Yet Chaotic doesn't really describe me either, as I do have a firm moral code - it's permissive, but solid. That doesn't really fall under Chaotic or Lawful - but Neutral is somehow unsatisfying. Neutral is, IMO, a far too nebulous category.
D&D needs to split its Lawful-Chaotic axis into two separate axes: Conformist-Individualist, and Strict-Lax. So Conformist Strict might be the equivalent of Lawful, Individualist Lax might be the equivalent of Chaotic, Individualist Strict would describe what I am, and Conformist Lax would be whatever it would be. Neutral would be at the center.
BTW, your definition of Chaotic Neutral is somewhat self-contradictory. You said (earlier, not in this thread) that they don't care about moral codes, but here you say that he "usually leaves others alone if they leave him alone". Is that not an element of a moral code?

Well, of all D&D alignments, I believe true neutral works best for me, although it's far from accurate.

Of course they do have some "morals" if you consider FREEDOM a moral, which is what they value
and the combination of Neutral + Chaotic means they have few morals (from the 'neutral' case) that they don't just do what they want to others. That could make them evil for example. So yes they have a limited amount of morals if you consider such things morals, but I was talking more about honor, virtues and respect in authority and the like.

Okay. What about my complaint that "neutral" is too vague and nebulous of a category?
