Expert Forgetfulness Bug

Hi guys,

I didn't have time to check all threads about this one, but it is helpful to know it, so I post it taking the risk to double an existing thread.

So, here's the expert forgetfulness bug:

You take a stack of no meleee penalty shooters (arch magi, zealots, titans, meduzas, beholders, enchanters... storm elementals DO HAVE melee penalty). You cast forgetfulness on them (expert or advanced so that noone can shoot). When their turn in combat comes, they have to attack in melee. And here's the thing. If you have, let's say a stack of arch magi and decide to attack in melee, the statistics below (ATTACK STH (600 dmg) will for example show that they will do 600 dmg, WHILE WHEN THEY HIT, they will do 300 dmg, as if they have melee penalty. This is a very basic example not taking into consideration hero special abilities (offense, armorer, archery) or the skills themselves. So, forgetfulness seems to add melee penalty in melee combat to units that otherwise do not have melee penalty (this is also the case with titans, provided you have the orb of vulnerability equipped). But wait, there is more. What happens, when both forgetfulness and BLESS are cast on the shooters? Let's take the arch magi again - with forgetfulness and without bless it shows they'll inflict 600 and they inflict 300. With both forgetfulness and bless, that 600 instanlty changes to 300 in the ALL STATISTICS window below the combat field and they do 300. So bless in a way reveals the hidden melee penalty caused by forgetfulness. So, if your opponent casts forgetfulness on your no melee ranged attackers the figures in brackets [ATTACK GOBLINS (600)] are actually wrong, and the real damage will be around 300. If you cast bless, this instantly changes to [ATTACK GOBLINS (300)]. Tested on SOD and COMPLETE.

I have no idea what's wrong with the colours, but here you can try to see exactly what I am talking about.

There is actually a "Not in the Manual" thread. But with the creation if a new thread more people will see it (I think), so you have done the correct thing (IMO) by posting it here.

PS: @angelito: I'm not commanding him, I'm sharing my opinion with him.

thanks, bloucester. I didn't know about it, thought I have read "Not in manual" thread and even posted there. Maybe, because I don't use this spell. Normally I play without Wisdom, so I either have some good high-level magic from tomes/hat or I don't have any spell over level2 at all Anyway, knowledge can be useful sometimes. I rememeber that in game vs Markon, he casted Antimagic on his AA on his first turn - that was a pleasure to attack his AA with my 1 dragon fly and then cast mass slow

well, you know, I came to this knowledge in a very similar way - I attacked some hydras with my "forgetful" archmagi expecting to kill at least 3 and it was a very bad surprise when only 1 died and the rest retaliated...

Yes, and ADVANCED FORGETFULNESS being a mass spell, don't we have another bug, cuz the description of the spell says "causes the selected enemy unit to forget to use its ranged attack in combat" and we, at the very least, don't have to select any; it affects all.

And, what is the difference between Advanced and Expert Forgetfulness in that case? They both cost 9 mana...

know what? i've actually only tested the melee penalty of forgetfulness for no-melee penalty ranged attackers on the expert level of the spell. perhaps it's too much to hope for, but can it be that this added melee penalty is an effect of the expert mastery of the spell. seems like i must do some testing with forgetfulness with no water magic, basic water and advanced, although the possibility of the game developers being so smart seems far-fetched to me.

This is an old thread, but the only one I could find about Forgetfulness.
Just to clarify Forgetfulness will actually make all ranged units deal only half damage in melee. This is a hidden bonus, as it is not actually mentioned in the description of the spell.

There are none, unless you play HotA, where they fixed Advanced Forgetfulness being mass.

Hmm I wonder if Forgetfulness ability to cut melee damage in half, is a bug or a "hidden ability". Does anyone know?

I've read that Forgetfulness virtually cuts the number of units by half to imitate damage reduction, but can't verify it atm.
