any way to prevent wog from crashing?
Hi.
Is there any way to get crappy heroes 3 wog to not crashing?! its FREAKING annoying!!!
each day i play wog, it crashes.
My pc gets slow and it takes long before it can actually shut down the crashed heroes 3 wog.
Is there any solutions to getting it fixed?
I'm desperate <.<
Best regards.

Do you have the latest version and script updates? Maybe you're using some mod that is bugy? Or it's just your computer?
When does it exactly crash? Give some more details...

Try turning off the "trees blowing in the wind" option. It's like pg 5 or 6 on the options pages. Mostly though wog has gotten too bloated for its own good

LOL FoG
1) Uninstall WoG
2) Set language to English (not just the Taskbar but also Control Panel > Regional and Language Settings)
3) Install SoD and WoG
4) update to 3.58f
5) don't wogify WoG maps
6) don't install additional fan-made mods

I did all of that...but still it crashes around 5 times each game (random game). Never during battles, but mostly when entering a town, a map object or when messages appear. Strange enough, I wasn't able to make a hardcopy of these errors as of yet (yes, I know about the prtscrn function..). The error is a big field around 40% of the screen size, same color as in game messages, starts with "error details" ans then has some "locations" lited, mostly 4 digit numbers. Game freezes, only way is goind back on desktop, task manager, end process.

WoG never crashed for me in 6 years of playing it except when I fiddled around with modifying the LODs. Sometimes it crashed when I was trying to replace a DEF file, but I don't know why. Though I always have a backup copy of the LODs so I just copy them over and it's all fine again.

well when it crashes by me, its mostly when i end my turn, or enter a town.
Well i want to wogify maps, since there is no wog with no wogified maps

I got errors of that nature but only in 3.57... IMO you should avoid all those heavy scripted dwellings (like adventurers cave for example) because they caused my game to crash many times...But to crash when you enter town? Are you using some custom WoG map that ISN'T meant to be WoGified?

just using normal maps and random maps and wogify them.
Well only happens sometimes, that it crashes while i enter a town.
Mostly kinda 90% of the time, is when i exit my turn

Then I think there are only this solutions:
-Download new WoG just like Vlaad said
-Check if your computer has any viruses
I know I'm not helpful but I really have no idea what could be wrong if you use just standard WoG 3.58

It seems players with heroes complete edition get crashes often. I almost never have crashes, and my install is :
HoMM3 (original)
SoD
And then WoG.
I suggest players who still play HoMM3 on-line to have a different folder for WoG, as when I play HoMM3 , the wog.exe stops responding.

It may be something with hardware and system. I sent my WoG folder to a german friend who had crashes every turn and he had them again when playing with my folder. While I don't.

It most often crashes if the group DEFs are modifyed or if the error messages are disabled.

That's exactly what happens to me, but only when playing Salamandre's unique map "Alexander The Great". But there is no fault in the ERM scripts, the map runs on an older PC without crash. The error messages mostly start with "Exception (trace details)" and then the numbers of Locations and "Access Violation" - "Attempt to write the inaccessible data at (digit numbers)".
I have send you a mail, Angelito.

It is not that easy. The ERM is hard - coded into the game and even the slightest mistake may cause the game to crash. So be carefull and DON'T mod your heroes if you don't know how to do it.

It is not about coding right, but about weird conflicts between hardware and WoG. A wrong code usually pops an error message day 1, while these players have crashes almost every turn. Alexander map has thousand of objects, quests and may require more memory than other maps. But certainly it has not wrong codes, as my game into it went without a single crash from start to the end, and my testers also.

Wait a bit, the hardware has nothing to do with ERM. It just happens - either we want it or not. Sometimes, the game may crash and when you load it again, the game won't crash. The coding is not that easy, and Slava didn't prevent all bugs from WoG. You can open the executable file with a decoder to see what I am talking about.

For all who had the same problems with WoG freezing: Finally a friend could recognize the reason, and so my problems are solved: I just had to change the compatibility modus in the properties of the wog.exe to Windows 98. Running with XP caused problems, but don't ask me why.
