There is Heroes console? .
If you are playin H3,press TAB and then type cheat,you must see message saying you cheated and not what you typed(dont ask how i know )

For H5 you can check my post here, it says how to enable the console and also how to get two useful adventure-map cheats (toggling fog of war and teleporting hero)

Don't use cheats it's embarrassing.If the game is too hard for you than play on easy and learn the game untill you become a great player !

Either way, I myself never bothered with Cheating. I do not like to jump into the Game's files just to enable cheated. (Either it's already enabled or I simply don't do it). Just too tedious to me.
That was the case with H5 anyway, in H3/4 it's just tab + nwc+ cheat code, whilst in H2 it was a combination of numbers. (I still remember "12367"
