Storyline question
OK. I played HoMM1, 2 + PoL, 3, Armageddon's Blade and I'm playing SoD right now.
never played any of the MM games. Plan to do so though soon as I finish SoD
Now there is a question that has been nagging me for some time. When I played Armageddon's Blade there were all these references to King Roland being captured, on the night of shooting stars. Also it said the the aforemetnioned night is when the Kreegans came to the planet.
I've read that the capturing of King Roland is explained in MM6.
This is all well and good, but my question is this:
Isn't this capture of King Roland the same that took place during level 1 of the 4th campaign in Restoration of Erathia. The level where you play AvLee??
Then it somehow doesn't make sense. Because it was mentioned that King Roland was first captured by Kreegans soon as they came...
So basically, wasn't Roland captured before the war of HoMM3? If so, why is he suddenly captured in the middle of the HoMM3 storyline?

Roland was captured by the Kreegans three years before Heroes III. MM6 takes place at the same time as Heroes III. You don't see Roland in that game, but there are a bucketload of references to him.
By the time of Heroes III, he's been transported from Enroth to Antagarich along with the Kreegans who invaded and conquered Eeofol. The ransom mission where you play AvLee stated that Roland was in Eeofol, but the Devils were deliberately misleading Catherine - he wasn't with Clan Klessive, he was instead being held in Colony Zod, a Kreegan outpost in a northern region of Eeofol: the Land of the Giants.
You invade Colony Zod in Might and Magic VII, kill Xenofex (the Kreegans' king) and rescue Roland. Then Armageddon's Blade takes place a couple of years later.

Thanks Cepheus!
Just a quick question though. In the intro to the HoMM3 mission, it says that an envoy from Eofol came and told them that they have Roland captured.
But if he was captured 3 years before HoMM, then surely Catherine and Avlee would already know about it?

They knew that he had been defeated by the Kreegans at the city of Kriegspire, but there was no evidence that he was still alive. Everyone in Enroth (MM6) assumes that Roland was killed by the Devils rather than captured.

Once again thanks! Now it's clear.
It was just a small thing I guess, but I hate it when I can't get the storyline in a saga straight. A small discrepancy in a detail like this can be very nagging.
I always play all games in chronological order for this reason (even if it means playing a game made in the 1980's! Take Ultima for example...), but when I started HOMM I didn't know MM existed.
Soon After I finish SoD I'm going to play all the MM's + HoMM4 and HoMM5 + Chronicles all in the right chronological order.

I didn't know about Might and Magic when I started playing Heroes either. So no worries there.
Feel free to ask any other story-related questions, I'm here Monday to Saturday
By the way, if you want to know the chronological order of the Chronicles, check this thread. It can get a little bit confusing, since they have few totally direct references to HoMM3's events (Clash of the Dragons and Sword of Frost are the only ones that take place around that time), though they take place at different times on that same continent.
