I think it would have done better. Simple Circle of Winter with Cold Death would've been enough to put down the academic troops. Also Power of Speed helps a lot in this duel.

I wouldn't consider Power of Speed an asset from Light Magic though. I mean, that perk is not even under Light Magic, it's under Attack. And indeed, it is overpowered (IMO), especially for might factions who do not even get Light Magic (inferno). I mean, one level for Advanced Mass Haste which would otherwise require a lot of skills/perks, not to mention having the (Haste) spell as well.
I see that perk as overpowered, but not really broken though.

Bleeeeh. The attack skill itself is inferior to every other primary skill, so it makes up for it with grossly broken perks (Retribution, Master of Speed, in some ways, Flaming Ballista). And yea, Power of Speed/Endurance =! Light magic.

Not to mention how powerful it actually is to enemies that do not have access to Light...A Hastened and Endured Inferno is a scary tought.
Imo, the park can rarely be as broken as Retribution. That park is soo damn' scary in the hands of Red Haven (Vindis, Crossers, Champs)

That's exactly my point ... Instead of wasting skills in Summoning, you get a serious magic school(from the other three) and a useful skill with cool ability on top of that, which adds variety to your spell book.

what good are hastened and endured champs if they have to knock down a blade barrier or walk through firetraps to do anything?
and on top of anything else, summoning is a FUN school to use ^^

Just to give my view on this:
Prequisite 1: 90% of the times summoning is not the best skill to choose
Prequisite 2: Good creeping potential in early game
My conclusion: For necro 90% of the time its a must, since need to fight against everything in the map asap including the opponent (within 21 days). Other factions should have really situational (and good) reason to pick it.
About the skills:
I really like fog veil. This is normal part of my necro setup against sylvan.
Fire warriors is a very good skill also.
The problem really with banish and exorcism, what I think 99,999999999999999% useless.
So maybe worth thinking to introduce two new summoning skills, and maybe improve runic armor a bit or figure out a better main skill for summoning.

I don't even bother picking summoning magic when no fire trap is offered in magic guild. Necro and dungeon maybe an exception of course. This level 1 spell helps especially at start versus slow walkers and large creatures. It has enormous creeping potential, especially with academy which has tons of mana and motw. Killing a pack of colossus or cyclop in week 1 for example is very much possible with this spell. Try Motw/fire trap on a secured blocker (16 fire traps with expert summoning!) and you'll even be able to kill large flyers this way, especially when they are multiple stacks which usually is the case when your army is weak compared to the enemy. Tricks like these make summoning magic really an interesting guild but versus human players it's less effective in my opinion.

Imo, Summoning is more of a Supportive Magic school. Not nessecairy, but a good supplement to your current strategies. However, supplement means, an additional support to faction that are already good at Might or Magic (like Academy).
If I already have Dark, and can afford to take another magic school, I'll probably pick summoning (if the spells are good ofc). I once was able to devastate my father's Stronghold Army with Frenzy supported by Phoenix and Hive. (I was academy there)
On it's onw Summoning isn't bad as a school, but like Towerlod said, it's perk SUCK, and in most cases you have like 6 better choices anyway.
However, It is possible to clear a whole map of neutrals with Summoning (Trap, Swarm) and Sorcery only.

Iīve made quite impressive things with blade barrier against neutrals 2x2 (specially Wraiths).
Itīs the most versatile magic school, but definitely it works quite better against AI, because of his poor intelligence.

True
Still it doesn't make the perk less overpowered though. But Nival balance is usually something like: underpowered + overpowered = fine, instead of being all balanced.
And yes I agree with Kispagat about the fact that Exorcism and especially Banish are useless. Exorcism *may* be useful when you're a Warlock casting an area spell and including a powerful Phoenix in the area (and deal double damage to it, possibly killing it in the process). You could take Cold Death but what if you don't want Master of Ice?
Anyway, Exorcism is 95% of the time useless, I agree, the situation I explained above is very rare... But Banish is even worse.

I would rate Exorcism worse than Banish, because Banish is excellent at taking out multiple Wasp Hives at once, that actually could prove useful once in a while. I think it also works fine against Mass Blade Barriers, and Arcane Crystals, but I'm not sure about this one.

@Fauch: Yes but the damage it does is pathetic.
@TowerLord: Banish works against Hives? In the manual it says that the hive is immune to magic... so banish is not something magical then?
Wow, Banish has some uses after all. It does low damage, true, but the hive doesn't have many hit points either.

low damage? the skillwheel says it banishes a percentage of the summoned creatures. with a hero level 20 you banish 85% of a gated army.

Wrong, it's lvl*(10 + summoning mastery) where summoning mastery is at most 3.
