The weather thread
I thought I might start a thread for members of the forum to discuss the weather. You can also give your views on the weather around, even in the places you don't live in.
Lately the South of Australia has been going through record heatwave conditions. The two main cities that had to put up with the scorching heat were Melbourne and Adelaide. Though it has cooled down over in Melbourne, temperatures are still reaching the high thirties (in centigrade that is) in Adelaide. Public transport has been affected, with tram and train lines in Melbourne being hosed down in Melbourne and trams in Adelaide now running without the top of their roofs in order to conserve energy (air-conditioners in Adelaide trams are well known to overheat). Passengers waiting for trains were given free bottles of water to keep hydrated.
If you managed to watch the Melbourne Cup tennis not too long ago, you would have seen how much the competitors have been sweating in the heat, causing the roof to be closed. Both cities have suffered major blackouts, with Adelaide's blackouts being caused by the electrical companies who didn't warn homeowners about it. Hospitals were filled to the brim with patients suffering heat strokes and dozens died as a result.
It's a different story over in London, however, as massive snow falls have brought traffic to a standstill, some of the public transport being unable to leave their stations. Heathrow Airport was blocked off and many passengers were left stranded. However, it wasn't all gloomy, as workers and students made the most of their days off and not worrying about the economic crisis.
Finally, February 2 was Groundhog day in America and the Groundhog has predicted 6 more weeks of winter. Enjoy your prolonged winter America!

Aah... I so miss Adelaide It's been a very long time.
As someone used to live in equator, I couldn't stand both the heat during summer and cold during winter in Australia. I longed for the sun during winter and hate the cold wind very much, but it's the absolute opposite during summer. I also watched the news recently about a bushfire that's been fought for days, was it in Sydney? Is it over?
As to the equator, well, even here you'd feel the impact of global warming. It's getting hotter each year. There was a time where I could stay in an unairconditioned room and had activities without getting dehydrated, but not anymore And when it rains hard, flood is everywhere.

Here in Oklahoma, there isn't enough rain, and it's too hot.
I want to live somewhere where it snows and rains often.

Welcome to Tromsų
It's been snowing lately and, well, it's okay, since I've not been skiing once this year yet, but now I have too wait longer before I can use my Converse shoes again, and have to wear my ugly wintershoes. The shoelaces doesn't even have the same colour
Although it's very naive of me to think that the snow would go away in February, I usually have to wait until the end of May before there's no snow left

I was very lucky this year to get more then one week of snow.
I hate the winter, its cozy but the ice it what makes it the worst season of the year. Just because this I cant take my bike to school without risking to die.
Also there is no major holiday between January and early April.

This man has never shoveled snow. Which incidentally I'll have to do this afternoon.

I love winter -- easier to "cool off" the room and thus the computer (in fact, might I say, even "warm up" the room a bit )

75 degrees? Aren't you melting?
Yeah I know you were talking about Fahrenheit degrees - I'm more used to Celsius though.

Oh, you poor fellow
Here we also use Celcius. There's no summer, but in dry season temp could also reach 35-38 degrees. Though I've also experienced more than 40 (in Australia) with very thin air that you could hardly breathe, 35-38 still kills you.

Damn, there was a blizzard out here yesterday and today, with more coming over the next week! Pity it turns to a disgusting slush every night. Thanks, mild climate.

I'd just be happy if the weather could choose. I don't mind having snow, its cold and wet but it's kinda cosy and looks nice. I don't mind not having snow since you get warmer feet. It's the things in between that bothers me, when it's all "slushy" and only snow and water all mixed together OR there's only ice everywhere, cold, hard and slippery. Accidents everywhere and people slipping and hurting themselves.

I think that's somewhat cool, I mean in view (not in accidents) and in experience.

Oh, next time you see some complete stranger fall down, and you have no time to help (or someone else does), think that he is baby-hitler (if a kid) or is just suffering some 'karmic' pain. It'll ease your emotional pain

Must suck to be in South Australia at this time. In a few years though, what you're experiencing now will move up to where I live and all because of the climate changing.

Well either that or the storms Queensland has been having, perhaps a mixture of the two.
I thought it was going to be 40 degrees tomorrow followed by a cool change Saturday afternoon but the next two days will be 44 and 41 respectively. I guess we won't be getting mid-twenties weather until Monday or Tuesday.
