But i am an beginner and i started to play the first scenario of nature campaign "The lovers" the most propositions and solutions you have gave to me i can't use them because in this scenarios those buliding can't be built The max Tier 3 creature and Level 2 spells
@BrennusWhiskey if you say that is simple playing against AI maybe you could help me with this scenario/map "The Lovers" to conquer all even when it is not needed

Nah it doesn't work that way. The castles and sieges are killing me
I am probably have to wait to gather bigger army and in that time take all the enemy mines and other buildings. Maybe i will summon a decent numebr of water elementals(they are great with that lighting spell) by this time and use other towns armies to weaken the defenders

It's picture looked more like lightning too me but i can be wrong no matter the name the only thing it maters that i deals nice damage
The patience strategy worked out, the first two towns where packed with max creatures and the other two far ahead where easy pickings
I managed to caught one hero out of castle and destroy him on open field, and the last Town standing had no chance...

It's essential, actually. In h4, you use creatures to pick up stuff and carry heroes (dead ore alive). You use unimportant heroes to flag things (usually all your heroes matter, however).

Must-haves

Magic hero: get GM magic, then some combat, then maybe some other school (dispel, cancel)
Can be useful

Each point gives you 10% chance to get good morale/luck (or bad, if it's negative). It goes up till 100% chance (+10).
Good luck multiplies damage taken by 2/3.
Bad luck multiplies damage taken by 3/2.
Good morale makes you act in the 'good morale phase' meaning you act first and can outwait your opponent with normal morale regardless of initiative (may act last) + multiplies your damage by 5/4.
Bad morale makes you act in the 'bad morale phase', meaning you act last and can be outwaited by your opponent with normal morale regardless of initiative + multiplies your damage by 4/5.
Please note that there are spells that set your morale/luck to +10 or decrease your moral/luck by -10.
Also note, that mixing troops of opposing alignments (heroes have alignment, yes) gives you a -5 penalty. Mixiing with a barbarian is -2, mixing with a friendly one gives -1.
What it means is that if you play nature, for example, you can use either nature+chaos based heroes+creatures OR nature+life based heroes+creatures.

You often dont use either in an endfight. If you do, crusaders offer double strike (kill opponent hero, revive with immo potion, kill again) while monk offers great ranged damage esp if you have precision and/or artifact for it (you are very likely to do). You dont carry them with you unless maybe in equi mod because they slow you down, however.

Look at it like this: Level 1 and 2 creatures are fodders, you're not going to need them in the endfights, so you can afford to lose them. Use them well for creeping, however.
Level 3's/Level 4's you'll need as many for the endfights as possible. Once you get your nice troop, you usually creep with 3-5 heroes and say angels only. Money buildings are COMPLETELY worthless (a little better in equi, but still rarely useful)

You don't want to. A level 20-25 hero is enough for everything you'd ever need: GM magic (one school, several schools are a waste because each time you'l only cast from one school: get an OTHER hero with that school then instead), high enough combat and magic resistance and even some extra support spells.

Well, rarely(!) you'll use them in endfight, in that case griffin is considered to be more powerful in vanilla, but the requirement for it is ridiculous. In equi, requirements are okay for both, it's personal taste. JUst make sure you understand that they WONT be a high factor (or ANY factor most of the time) in the end.

Siege fights don't happen. If they do, it's vs the AI and it doesnt matter what you do. Hop on a tower as soon as possible.
Extra tips
1) Instantly delete ALL maps that came with the game. They are completely useless, imbalanced, stupid, etc. Don't even try to play them.
2) Never play single player games vs the AI. Never. Don't even think about it.
3) If you wanna have fun with singleplayer, get fanmade maps (look them up in the round table for example), there are lots of very good ones in every style (rpg, puzzle, fight challenges, etc).
4) If you wanna have fun with multiplayer, I recommend the same. Visit ToH as well, play vs some nice opponents. Save every turn and after the game ask for password by opponent if he beat you and analyze his moves.
5) The original campaigns are quite good. But don't forget 2)-
The nature campaign:
Archer + gm melee + combat + potions = unbeatable army
Druid + gm nature + good spell usage = unbeatable army
Key spells
quicksand, wasp swarm, summon water, summon leprechaun, fatigue/slow (water elemental!), summon lvl4, dragon strength + the obvious life spells to save you
Creatures
Mantises, either level4 nature, angels, nuff said :-)
Sprites are deadly for quicksand + hit and run
Wolves do tons of damage (clever usage of retaltaking + hithithit)
Elves and tigers are both very good.
Tips for creeping
Low level:
druid (only nature), archer (only combat, use as tank), sprites, wolves, some lvl2 stack for damage
Just a lvl5 archer is GM combat (can take a tremendous amount of damage), lvl5 druid is expert nature (summon water!).
summon waters
they cast:
quicksand (melee creatures wont ever pass)
fatigue (half init/speed)
ice bolt (high damage)
especially useful with flares
summon leprechaun: a fodder + casts luck
summon satyr: a fodder (high damage actually) + casts mirth (acting first/last in every round is very powerful!)
Take hits with archer if needed, or fodders. Kill enemy with sprites+wolves damage. Versus shooterss block LoS properly. If you face casters, put single unit fodders in front, they wont cast on them (consider it a waste) so they are not going to use magic.
Later:
mantis, phoenix, archer, druid, pathfinder, priest, tactician
priest heals you
mantis makes sure incoming enemy is caught (good tank)
archer tanks too
phoenix does damage plus you summon up or cast more
other heroes cast swarm, slow down and all those things
More tips:
1) When you level up a hero, keep him in his starting class as long as possible! Don't take 4th skills either.
I wrote this in bold because it is probably the single most important thing in the game. Have a role for a hero, and until he is maxed out in that role, focus on it entirely.
For instance, if you start with a priest, and you want to turn it into a GM life caster, don't pick any (yes not even combat!) skills until he gets there. Healing, spirituality, altars, libraries only. Don't worry about him dying: if you handle the fights alright, he won't. Same goes for any GM caster. Getting your summon water spell one level earlier can mean the world for you... or dragon strength, divine intervention, mass fervor for that matter. If you start with a tactician, teach only tactic skills until he's experienced enough. If you start with a thief, teach pathfinding only.
This is because as soon as a hero has skills from several trees, things get messy. You'll be in danger of having to choose between useless skills on levelup. If your hero has 2+ points in at least 2 trees, you get an advanced class and your guy will get skills offered of both types which can mess you up even more.
If you have to build a cross-type hero (for example you need to build a pathfinder from an archer, because you can't choose chaos-based hero - either impossible, or would give a high morale penalty), you need at least two points from somewhere before you get the preferred skill offered. If this is unclear, here's an example:
An archer will only get combat skills offered by default, and sometimes it will get other types offered, but less often. To make him a pathfinder, you need to teach him 2 points from the scouting tree (for example beastmaster's hut + altar) and then keep picking pathfinding (scouting, if unavailable).
A druid will only get nature skills offered by default. He's also sure to be offered combat skill every several levels, and sometimes he'll be offered other skills (with some probabilities). To turn him to a demonologist, you need to teach him two death skills and then you're ready to go.
2) Try to use fast creatures only and always have a pathfinder in your army. Your hero has the movement points of the fastest creature in the group, so for example your wolves will slow you down. You can remove them from your group however and only join them for the fights you will use them in.

Just keep trying. Turn grid on, that makes it easier. Well you need to click, then keep it moving (flowing) and in the end you're finished. Never really got it down to an exact science, however. You'll get the hang of it fast, I believe.

I had played H4 campaigns a few years ago so I don't remember them well but the beginning of the Necro campaign was one one of the most difficult. Some general tips when playing Necro in SP (without Equilibris):
- if possible, get Vampires ASAP and do not buy any other creatures; they tend to win most of the battles without any losses (except the battles against other undead, mechanical or elemental units - for such fights take some cannon fodder like skellies or Imps)
- try to reach GM Necromancy ASAP; without any libraries, altars etc. usually it is possible at level 10 (requires Expert Death)
- the next goal is to get Master Death and hope for Vampiric Touch (excellent spell to cast on Bone Dragons), Mass Sorrow is also good; GM Death spells are not so great.
If I remember correctly, on Map 1 there is a Vampire dwelling underground; try to capture it ASAP. Some other tips may be found at Celestial Havens.

I discovered that vampire mansion after i have taken an town....
It seems that almost all campaigns start to be very hard and further quest are a bitt easier just because you have an expierienced character.

Ok so I am new to this and having some difficulty. I have d/l HOMM4 w/ WOW & GS and installed the game + expansions. The game worked fine until i tried to play a map I created. The game tells me bad map file and refuses to play. I removed all the random major artifact generators off and replaced the horned and elf kings bow but still nothing. I assume I have the US version as the language is 409 and the properties tell me its version 3.0.0.2. I have tried running all the patch updates but none work as all say "Old file not found. However a file of the same name was found. No update done as file contents do not match." This error occurs at different stages depending on which patch I attempt. In some instances in reference to heroes4.exe and other cases for campaign editor.exe. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still nothing. My version is cracked i believe. can anyone send the original heroes4.exe and campaign editor.exe or help me play my map some other way? There has to be a way around it please help.
