As would I, graphics are expensive, and those who buy new games for the graphics are wasting their money. This isn't to say that because H5 is a 3D game that it's bad, because it probably isn't (I haven't played it myself so I wouldn't know), but the same strategies could be pulled out of something with lower graphics costs.

My opinion is that H5 uses too many resources for what it displays... bad engine optimization, I guess...

That's a point, I mean AoK used to jam up after a few hours on my old computer, but Cossacks didn't despite the fact the Cossacks had formations that would almost outdo AoK's population limit (8,000 troops for the entire game, as opposed to AoK's 1,600).

Low end PCs, being too expensive?!
I am a very low income earner(19,000$ a year, net).
Why in the world can I find the monies to purchase a much newer machine every 2 years or, 1 and half years and, still find them rather cheap to purchase?
I am still single, BTW(41 years old male by June 10th of this year).
Hardware parts are relatively affordable, to me, anyway.
Note: North Americans are, quite spoiled, when it comes to income earnings.
So, How low, can, your employment income be, by your country's status of economy? Just curious, that's all.

How about around $6000-$8000 a year? And there are even people with lower incomes here.

That is why, the game, has been made for, mindless and thoughtless teenagers.
No income, have been given the relic PC of one or, both parents.
No wonder, that these teenagers come to this forum board and, start complaining that HoMM5(any version) does not work properly on their, getting really obsolete, PC.
So, give yourself a favor, ask your parents, as to why, you were not set, for a monthly allowance of monies for both school use and, personal use at home.
Good Luck! At getting that allowance, that is!

Luc, life is not so simple. Where the kids don't have the money, parents likely don't have them too.
BTW Cannot you write in simplier sentences? Let see it should go like:
"So, do yourself a favour and ask you parents why you don't have monthly allowace, to cover (free adjective of your choice) expenses on education and life?"
Afaik getting continuously new hardware is for nothing, my machines usually last for five years and I learned to not to overinvest them. After all, the closest term to what I need is HTPC Workstation
Now calculating my yearly income it would be about 9000$ per year net, which is about 1800$ more than what is considered to be an average salary here.
So, believe it or not, you're rich.
(This maybe a bit misleading, because the rate of exchange is like on the seesaw, for example in summer '08 it would be 15000$ per year net - now, ain't that funny?)
Furthermore PCs in (Mid, Eastern)Europe cost more than in USA, same is going for software, so to complicating things more we have "bonus" raging from few percents to twice as much. Depending on the whims of the company. There's a wide gap between just an ordinary hw to Adobe and Microsoft products. Luckily hw itself isn't so bad on it.

I think it should have bad graphics...
It sounds stupid, but I agree. HOMM is not a game were you are aware of the graphics. You mainly focus on the strategy. You don't need to feel like being in the game like in counter-strike. It's mostly a cheap trick made by the creators to call the game better than the previous one. Personally don't give a **** about the graphics in my strategy games. It happens a lot of times that I like the earlier games better than the sequels because they only focused on the graphics. It's also often a lame excuse for screwing up the gameplay. So for me: Extremely good graphics indicates a bad game

That's going a little bit overboard with the generalisations. It's true that spending too much time on the graphics can lead to bad gameplay, but on the other hand, graphics can also enhance the gameplay experience (think of the difference between RA and RA2).

Hi everyone!
Will I started with Heroes II, which I adored, one november night I discovered Heroes III, not very stable at that time, and I was fascinated. It surely conquered my heart. Then Heroes IV was a big disappointement. Finally comes Heroes V to redeem itself, but fails, as the game cannot be played on multiplayer (not without serious difficulties) and the random map generator does not exist, and even the later one is nothing compared to the Homm3 one. Homm5 is too much graphics, too much effects, slow gameplay, useless 3D. They wanted to create a Warcraft3-like Heroes, but failed.
Heroes 6 you say ? Well.... you can leave the battles in 3D but for sure the gameplay (world) is to be returned to 2D. As 3D is too complicated and it costs a lot in performance.
kind regards,
