Both Vampires and Werewolves while not real come from things that are very real. Though the origin of the vampire is debatable, the 'source' seems to be the Count Vlad Dracule. He did things like dismember his own people to scare off any possible invaders. Another possible source is 'Bloody Mary' who used to kill virgins and bathe in their blood. Some argue that Cain who was 'marked to roam the world forever" was the first Vampire or First Werewolf or even both. That is mostly from WhiteWolf (a game) however.
Werewolves come from a mental illness. Somepeople actually believed they turned into these things on full moons. Lunacy, Lunatic, ect comes from the word Luna or Moon and many mental illnesses were tied to the moon in the middle ages.
Every myth has a small ammount of truth (or most). Just keep in mind that vampires did exsist before 'Dracule' but they were described much different then what we commonly recognize as vampires. Some were not even 'undead' at all, but just people who drank and/or bathed in the blood of the living.
