I am. Thusly I am.
posted March 02, 2009 11:55 PM

I was awake 'bout 80 hours once, then I got bored and slept for one hour, after that I was bored and played computer and was up 20 hours more, then I got home and drank a BIG cup of coffee and went to bed! My experience is that after being up 60 h+ everything gets incredibly boring and you become slow minded and tired, even though it isn't very hard to stay awake during daytime.
So I guess my record is either 80 hours or 100 with one hour sleep.

It's funny, I was thinking of making a similar thread.  I've even invented a word for being sleep deprived.  "Slebit" is the number of hours of sleep you owe your body (sleep + debit).  I don't know about other people but for me there's no cheating the sleep bank.  If I borrow 2 hours of slebit one day, 3 the next, and 1 the next, my body will reclaim all six on the weekend.

A few other things I've noticed.
-I tend to fly off the handle a lot more easily if I'm sleep deprived.  I've blown up like a volcano a few times in my life and each time I owed several hours of slebit.
-my memory during the days when I borrowed a lot of slebit is a lot fainter then when I get a good nights sleep.  I totally believe that the main function of sleep is to augment your memories or learning that are important.

When I was younger I used to hate sleep because I thought it was a time-waster.  Not any more

This is super frustrating.  My sleep schedule is so messed up right now I don't think I am even allowed to call it a schedule anymore.  I have got maybe 4-5 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours.  But the funny thing is, I feel tired and everything like normal, but my eyelids aren't all droopy like I'm ready to fall asleep, which is handy for getting through classes.

When I started this thread, I sort of embraced my problem.  But now it is turning into a huge pain.  I just want a normal night's sleep at this point.  I think I'm becoming an insomniac.  But that's a self-diagnosis so it probably isn't right.

I always thought it could be cool to be an insomniac.  I thought, think of all the extra time you would have to get things done!  Reality sure is a punch in the nose....

What's so funny, Consis?

btw Wolfman, if you're willing to try a home remedy for your insomnia, try eating some fresh spinach at the same time as tomatoes.
folic acid + glutamic acid = sleep (for some)

@FriendofGunnar

Unfortunately I don't have access to fresh anything most of the time, so that wouldn't work.

On a positive note, I got about 12 hours of sleep last night.  As long as I stay in some sort of a routine, I think I might be ok.

Mvas, every time I come back on here, no matter how short a time, you change your avatar.  So what's the problem with me changing mine?

What's wrong with a little change?  After more than 6 years I think it's ok to change it.

If I were you I wouldn't change yours either.

If I don't sleep 10-11 hours, I feel like ****.

Actually tiresome, and getting up after "normal" 7-8 hours of sleep is horrifying. Can't get out of bed

My mate sleeps only 5 hours per day. Now that's something. His day is 6 hours longer than mine. So in fact, if we live the same age, his life will feel ~ 50% longer

Yeah, but most likely he would die some time before you

To be honest, I would never take part in such experiments because they do harm to health. This is apparent. But there is another difficult thing. What do you think about Bill Myers Premier protein powder? Is it healthy enough? I want to improve my body but I am afraid to damage it
