EU bans use of 'Miss' and 'Mrs'
Using 'Miss' and 'Mrs' has been banned by leaders of the European Union because they are not considered politically correct.
Brussels bureaucrats have decided the words are sexist and issued new guidelines in its bid to create 'gender-neutral' language.
The booklet warns European politicians they must avoid referring to a woman's marital status.
This also means Madame and Mademoiselle, Frau and Fraulein and Senora and Senorita are banned.
Source
As I know so far the new word is going to be "camarada", no maters if the person is female or male. It remaind me of the old socialistic "comrade" (ru: tavarisht, bg: drugar )...
I'm asking for your opinion, isn't this crazy? I mean stupid, there are much bigger and real problems, who will ever be insulted if you call him/her "Miss" or "Mrs"? Most people are getting insulted when you miss it and call them only with there family name.
EU is getting crazy
What's next, they are going to bann the scientific ranks (Dr., Prof...)? Because it's "very offending for you" to call someone "Prof." (since you are not a prof). In the future are are going to call each other something like "human" or "brother"... wait! No! What about the LizardMan, he is going to be offended!

Are you people kidding? It's NOT crazy at all, it's just plain and simple a question of equal rights and absolutely correct to do.
In Germany this has long been done, by the way, and it was high time.
If you make a difference between a Miss and a Mrs., what does this information actually convey? What DID it convey in the course of history? Come on, you can't be so naive, can you?

if women are offended by this, they shouldn't get married... which in turn would solve lots of problems

I think the whole Idea is preposterous. Banning Mr or Mrs, which in fact has it's polite uses. No Gender difference, my @$$! What's next? Hiding all those beards and breasts so that we don't have no gender difference at all. I think it's pointless, eventhough men and women are equal in rights, competence, (etc), you cannot just act as if they are the same gender, because they are not. It's odd and quite emotionless to do so imo.
I'm not a sexist. On the contrairy, I support the equal rights and treatment of Women and am against any form of Discrimination, but this is too me a bridge too far. It feels like we can't see women as women anymore, but as "human" (same of men ofc).
And besides, how do you adress them then? Comrade? Friend? Human?

Well maybe I am very naive then. Miss says you're not married and misses says you are. What's the big deal?
Quote: and simple a question of equal rights
Why? Because men are simply called "Herr" or "Mister" no matter wether they're married or not? I don't see how it's descriminate it's just more formality which makes things politer.
And I'd really like to know what word you're talking about with your referrence to german, mind telling me? And maybe I wasn't too clear in what I consider outrageously stupid. I think it's beyond reasoning as to why one would insist on a "gender neutral" word. What's wrong with having a word for a man and a word for a women. They're different after all oO. Equal rights sure but we're still not the same (we don't usually get our periods...).

Can someone here explain why is a woman's marital status important but not that of a man?

Thank you! This is what I've allways have said! Of coursse men and women should have the same rights, of course they should be payed the same for the same job, od course there should be women bosses and supervisors! Saying anything else is just absurd. But saying that men and women ARE the same and should be treated the same way, ALLWAYS, no matter the situation is just plain stupid, since we aren't the same ALLWAYS and in every situation.

Quote: equal
They are already equal.
If you think that they are not... why UK has a "queen", THIS IS SO SEXIST! If you call her "queen" it means that you think on her like she is a woman! As we all know, she isn't, she is only "human"! She will be called just "ruler" or "monarch" (for example) from now on.
Another sexist words are two of the personal pronouns - "he" and "she", we need to ban them and use "it" only, after all man and woman are absolutely equal and should be treated like this!
Seriously, the guys (OMG, ban this word!)... the camradas at the EU parliament are getting paid ... we are in crisis... think on this...

Completely ridiculous. What a joke.
Why is it even called a "democracy"? It's oligarchy. We ordinary people can't do **** about what a bunch of crazed bureaucrats orders to do.

You are obviously not understanding the point!
The point is not to ban the use of Mr. and Mrs. - A man is still a Mr., but a woman is now a Mrs., not a Miss or Mrs. depending on their marital status.
Why should the address convey social status? And why should it convey that status only for one half of the people?

Why do I have a feeling no one even knows what this is about At least the comments sound like that.
They are giving out booklets in the parliament and one cries that this is oligarchy and another that they are wasting MY tax money. One speaks about the banning of words "man and woman" Lol what a topic.
So back to the issue here actually.. Any comments on why a woman's marital status is relevant, at this day and age, but not that of man? Anyone?
