Heroes 3 basic rules
Hey there,
I usually play H3 online with just a couple buddies of mine and we have a set of rules we play by.
essentially they are
NO DD/FLY (only exception is if both parties agree due to impasse)
Quick Combat only
No cartographer
we also play no artifact merchant as red has an advantage (update)
I'm wondering what are some other good rules. we play 4.0 as TE seems to crash all the time.
We play random towns, random starting bonus and random heroes so we dont disable any level 4's as its just dumb luck getting them and we dont find them that usefull to begin with. (except maybe Lyonis)

we try to finish a large map in a couple hours, so we need to do quick combat, it makes the game much more difficult and less tedious as well.
I should mention quick combat only against neutrals

quick combat....
sometimes u might not win with quick combat while if u do it manually u might not even loose 1 creep.
but since u guys always play huge maps, its a must lol.
No diplo is a good rule .

The backside when using only quick combat is that you never learn to fight.
The good side when you know to fight is that combats are much faster. A lot.

yeah we like it, we've been playing H3 since it came out (bought it release day) so we know how to fight.
I agree though I would never use quick combat if he wasn't as you can't afford to lose those precious troops and the CPU has a tendency to use up all its MP when there is no reason to. Its the same handicap we both get.
No diplo is a good rule as I've had a horde of dragons join me when I thought I may even lose the battle and that will break a map, but we shy away form diplo usually, neither of us really know how to use it effectively.
Thanks for the replies

For me the correct restriction is "no joiners" instead of "no diplomacy".
Also solves some problems that might tantalize newbies when they enforce the rule.
As of why, black_knight's post, January 19, 2008 is a good example.

hi
@Draco : You and your friends better get your asses in GameSpy from time to time to see how good players play this game nowadays (not me, i am not a good player). I bet you all could not win a single game out of 50
