Germany moves to outlaw paintball
The German government says it plans to ban combat games such as paintball, in response to a recent school shooting.
The new measures being proposed to parliament also include tighter gun control rules and give officials the right to conduct checks on gun owners.
Anyone defying the proposed new rule could face a 5,000-euro (Ģ4,474) fine.
Sixteen people, including the gunman, were killed in the school shooting in March. Relatives of the victims say the new measures do not go far enough.
Under the proposed rules, the authorities would be given more right to ensure weapons are safely locked up.

The massacre at Albertville School shocked Germany
It is also thought that "biometric controls" for gun storage might be introduced, the BBC's Steve Rosenberg in Berlin reports.
That would mean that anyone owning and storing guns at home would need to use their own fingerprint to open the safe or cupboard, our correspondent says.
Berlin also plans to ban games like paintball and laser-tag that simulate killing on the grounds that they trivialise and encourage violence.
But relatives of those killed in the March attack in the town of Winnenden, near Stuttgart, are calling for an outright ban on pistols and high-calibre weapons.
"There cannot be a second Winnenden," Hardy Schober, whose daughter was killed in the attack, told a news conference in Berlin.

Well, that sucks.
I mean, I can understand the parents being so distressed and I think guns shouldn't really be held in the hands of civilians, but then again, people want to feel safe and I respect that. Now, I think that people won't make a rational, but an emotional decision with Winnenden fresh in the minds of the German people, so it is very much possible that people will make the wrong decisions.
Now, I think German has always had a stance on games that is way too strict. They make the blood green in video games (right?) and now plan on banning paintball. Now, in videogames, you aren't really aiming and pulling the trigger, nor is it a real person you ill, so video games don't really inspire killers, I think. Okay, maybe they inspire it, but actively encouraging... Not exactly...
Now, you can't make that case for paintball, but in that case you should outlaw all martial arts and ban all weapons, because otherwise it wouldn't be fair, now, would it?

Scenario that has been here like million times. Government always blames trivial things like paintball or computer games, while main problem, weapons, are still out there. How about banning guns in Europe? I share relativeīs attitude. I donīt see reason why anyone except police and army members should have any. Making guns illegal would in my opinion prevented much more crimes than banning innocent game. Maybe Iīm not absolutely unbiased (I was in paintball team for three years), but with attitude German government can ban even computer games containing violence, action and criminal movies or make just talking about violence illegal. I would love to see percentage how many murderers and killers played paintball - maybe same as played golf. Even if they ban paintball, there will be humans and guns, so I donīt see any rational point in such move. Truth probably is, that many people got shocked by incident in Germany, so government decided to make minor move just to keep things look like they are actually solving problem, while doing nothing - nothing more than theater to keep mouths shut.
From my point of view, only viable way to lower such incidents is banning guns in global, banning sport wonīt change nature of human race (humans will be violent no matter what).

Hormones made me it, video games made me do it, I was warped beause I was spanked for stealing my sister's strawberry sucker, it was beause I couldn't watch my favorite TV show when I was grounded, it was because there was so much violence on TV, ........
The fact is we are all responsible for and should be held accountable for our own actions. We make the decision about what we will do. Every day we decide who we are becomming with our daily decisions.
It is sad that society blames everyone but the criminals and makes excuses for them.

What happened to personal responsibility?
If we were less nice to criminals - if we really put them to work and made them responsible for the consequences of their actions - we would see less of this. We need far more personal responsibility. Don't blame depression/family history/video games. There is only one person to blame, and it's the person pulling the trigger.

It's as stupid as collective responsibility.
Because of having ONE madman running loose, they will disallow millions of normal German teens and adults to do something completely harmless. Fortunately, you can still play video games, Germans, so it could've been worse

Your are right, but personal responsibility wonīt work in most massacre incidents. Have you noticed that in most school shootings attacker took his life after butchering others? They are well aware that this is the last day of their life - they just want to take as much people with them before they leave this world - only fool would expect that he will get away. No punishment or threat will stop them in this case. Actually, they can of course kill others without using guns - but with lower efficiency. As long as they wonīt reach any gun or other "effective massacre" weapon, life of others will be much safer.

Oh don't you dare remind me of elemenary school <.< "Sorry, 1 person in either(4 grades using the same area) of your grades acted like a total ass. We KNOW who this person is, but instead of punishing that person we will punish all of you for that persons induvidual actions! Class mismissed."
The worst part was that they closed down a few things we really like because of some snow who would have gotten beaten bad if the bastard was not popular, and they still did not bother to even adress problems they have with bullies at the school.
Heck from what i hear upon the gossip and read from that, they are have still not done anything with it.
A note is that they are required by law to do someting about their problems.
Note: If somebody went gun berserk because they was bullied, the people who bullied and the people who ignored it is the ones to harshy punish.

When do we learn to look through the psychological prism?

Wow I agree with Elodin and Mvass? Truely the sign of the end times. The 'not me' defense (ie it is something/somebody elses fault) started being an effective defense because people felt sorry for the criminal. As it grew in popularity more and more things were used as 'excuses' for why they did what they did (one of the reasons I created the where do we draw the line thread). Now it is way out of control.
What people do not understand is that people had worse lives then the ones using this excuse, and never did the things that that person did. They care about the criminal's rights over the victims rights. Before I really start to rant I will close with this. People will use any excuse that they can.

The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms.
-Adolf Hitler
No, I'm not saying Germany is becoming Nazi again, but this yet another case of the government saying to it's people, "We don't think you're responsible enough to be responsible for yourselves." As if psychopaths are created out of paintball matches. Ridiculous, despicable, immoral.

So if I take interactive doll with remote control and make it shoot someone with a pistol, then you can blame the doll, right?
What comes to the topic, I think someone who is playing paintball with other people cannot become a psycho as psychos are mostly born of people that are not living a normal social life.

Your misunderstanding the quote.
What did Hitler and the Nazi view the jews as? As a race, and as someting bad. What hitler said was: "Do not give 'bad people* guns". Why? Because they will just use them to kill people for no reason.
A good gun restriction would however work, because guns are helping in making it worse. Not paintball.

Famous opera singer Tito Beltran had sex with an underage girl.
Probably too much Sound of Music, it must be banned before any kids get a hold of it.
...
And Xerox how boring can you possibly be? How is it dangerous? Ever heard about protective equipment?
And don't give me the kids can get Paintball stuff anywhere they like argument. There is a 18+ requirement and it's the parents' responsibility if their kids are using the stuff.

Ha, I remember when lithuanian goverment clowns tried to outlaw metal.
And it's been proven scientifically that paintball(and similiar) and violent video games are helping to lay off some steam. The reason for these rampages is more psychological and sociological, e.g. extreme bullying or parental abuse.
