I tried again to be sure. First time was me vs Dungeon again, but next were different factions. I guess it was just a coincidence. AI only attacks after week 1 so it takes extra troops (he had 10 Tier 7, I had 6 in one game). I guess it`s not much of a trouble, better practice, but it depends on factions.
Anyway, don`t want to spoil the thread anymore.

After a long break Arcax lost his second match versus Pera. Regardless of what happens in the next one Pera has secured enough points to enter the finals, good job Tough luck Arcax, maybe next time

That's why I don't like moving units when the opponent has 2-3 possible targets, he can easily dive in an unexpected stack. And goblins are a popular choice due to horde's anger. But from what I saw you did not buy shatter dark at all, too risky. You should have figured out that pera likes light/dark builds His regeneration helped, without it it would have been closer.
We have started our games with Pera in the meantime and the score is 2-0 in my favour. Pera will have a hard time catching up..
Replays
First was my academy vs haven, classic match. Apparently mentor scr*wed him over, spent like 30k to get the perks he wanted He already had 40% destructive protection from the dwarven set plus another 15% from defense -> magic protection and fire resistance, if he had more meat I'm not sure I could have taken him down. My build was light/destructive with a focus on the latter so my 23 spellpower deep freeze killing just 7 champions WITH elemental vulnerabiliry was a shocking sight. Even nastier when his crossbowmen killed 6 titans in one shot and he protected them with immunity later. But I was prepared for the possibility and blocked him with arcane crystals. They had enough time to move out of there but my remaining rakshasas teleported into the fray with murder in their hearts I should note that earlier the champions had an unlucky attack on them and they retaliated with luck.
The other one was the typical boring defensive necro approach, dark with power of endurance - but I also had luck. I had forgotten to visit well before unlearning intelligence so that forced me to unlearn soldier's luck. But apparently the vamps still torpored like nobody's business.. Pera had mentor problems as well. The terrain favoured me badly so it was easy to surround his cavalry and start cursing the rest. I managed to sneak in two puppets between his hero and paladin turns which sealed the game but main reason I won was my hero always playing after the knight's turn.

In regards to your question a while back I also watch the replays (although most of them are deleted due to speedyshare deleting the fles after a while). Just feels as if it would be out of my place to comment here, where you pro players are hanging with each other

Big deal, it's more of a friendly final It's not a closed club, if you have any comments go ahead and post them. At the very worst you may learn something out of it.
Edit: And about the deleted replays cepheus plans to upload them on his site, hang in there.

I'd like to join, but I've never played against human players, and I can't even beat heroic AI , so I'd get trashed (I think I'm quite good at battles themselves, but not building up towns and getting an army)

Battles is all the point here. You take 10-15 mins to level up through a sphinx, learn spells, buy units and then fight. There is no town building or creeping included.
VICTORY!!
After a valiant battle - and a lot of luck - Pera went down leaving me the victor. Good job mate, you were an excellent addition to this tournament and I thank you for all the close games we played My recent winning streak was unexpected, never thought I'd enter the finals while lagging behind in score and you in the way. Sq79 and Arcax also had an impressive display of skills with the former being a bit luckier This has been a most enjoyable tournament, thanks to everyone for participating and of course..
Congratulations to the top 4!
No cup for Arcax but at least you are in the top 4 and you get a medal of honour
I plan to host a second season around mid September, hoping to see more new faces! For the more competitive ones I also plan an official toh tournament but it's still early to tell.
I almost forgot, Replays. Played the first - haven vs inferno - rather badly though Pera's atb certainly ruined my plans. The second, stronghold vs inferno was a lot more interesting, intense game worthy of finals

Congrats Elvin.
Saw the replays. Were the factions randomly assigned because hell of a lot recently involved haven?
So either the players were good at haven & chose them or just terribly unlucky? (like seen other replays elsewhere with only 1 spellpower?!?)
[3 out of 4 in grand finals were haven losses]
ofc one had light inferno which is great as seducer provides the dark...
All this has been great viewing/reviewing & might even encourage me to join in future too if I have time, just casual ofc, but probably need some online games sometime - do you guys have a group or something for such duel games? [as opposed to normal games in which I take too long]

The map always gives you a random faction when starting. For haven to get 1 spellpower that only means that might over magic is in play, so an orc opponent. There is more to it than just haven losing, in necro I had perfect skills plus luck and against academy pera came with about half his army - mentor problems. Can't say I am proud for that inferno - haven game, played confident that I could charge him but him starting with expert endurance changed everything.
Would be nice if you joined, link for the map is in the masterpost with some explanations but send an hcm if you want to know more. For the record the next tournament is casual just like the first was, I started it for the temple regulars that don't play much online

So the creator-moderator won - there was any doubt it will happen
Great games, too bad the inferno - stronghold was decided mainly by luck, but was rather amusing.
And thanks for medal, it will look nice on my shelf. Especially with this huge "Home" written on it

Congrats Elvin, seems like you were really good (and lucky), in the final steps of this mini-tournament. The replays were boring and one sided though , the random system proving inadequate, for this kind of final clash, favoring elvin luck type of players , at least in my opinion.
In the end, good luck in your remaining matches in the arena, let's see if you manage to repeat yourself in there.
Btw, I liked the scripting for the mentor thingy ... can it be made in a way to allow only a limited number of uses on lvl 1 instead of 0 ?

My life doesn't feel more complete but it will when I finish my exams
I was pretty lucky recently but also consider how much gold Pera wasted in mentors for two of the final matches. Academy - haven for instance would have been hell for me if he had full army plus that outrageous magic reduction. At any rate random matchups is well.. random. Had unlucky matches early, had better ones later. But it's not that chaotic, there were some pretty hard games throughout the tournament like my inferno defeating necro.
It's just like toh format, most players play random and some manage to become emperors at which point they all have pretty good chances for success. Arcax, Pera, Sq, Larry, Asheera amongst others could have reached this place. The games during the season are even more erratic due to its elimination nature. To reach the finals it still counts total points so a lucky streak against one opponent will not be enough, as for the final itself 5 games is a reasonable number. It's not an official competition, remember it was meant to be friendly for the regulars here
About the script you should be asking another

No. Every faction has a hero with pathfinder special so as not to affect the battle, advanced racial and two key perks. For instance sylvan's hero has advanced avenger, imbue arrow and rain of arrows, haven has adv counterstrike with retaliation strike and expert trainer, dungeon adv irresistible spells with empowered spells and elemental vision etc. Intent was to avoid having unbalanced matchups like for instance Helmar vs Yrbeth Also to have it easier for certain skill abilities to appear, sometimes racial perks do not appear that can mess up your build.
