I don't believe in myths, especially when I already have protective glasses while at the computer (just reduce contrast and allows you to naturally blink, something to that effect).
Now, how many have earplugs in a concert?
Also, at least at the PC/office/whatever, you are civilized and quiet, not screaming like a savage.
EDIT: With all honesty I find the hysteria at a concert extremely disrespectful of the respective band's or whatever's music. In contrast to a symphony or concert hall or something to that effect (or orchestra or even opera) where civilized people obviously, go there for the music or the play.

There are quite a few bands who stop the music during their performance and dictate where the hell they want mosh pits 
Oh, and many MANY will want the audience to scream for them.

Also, frankly, the hysteria is only really bad if you go to a teenage concert like Britney. I saw Justin Timberlake two years ago, and the screaming was pretty intense (great concert, though). But most concert I go to, people are not screaming because they are there for the music.

So concerts being bad for your ears are real while damage a PC can do to you is a myth?
Well that makes sense
What about damage to your social life? I mean, I know you don't care about that one, but can't you understand people who don't care for some supposed damage to their ears (by the way I've been to a dozen concerts and can't feel a difference in my hearing) in order to see and hear someone they adore and have a good time with their pals while they're at it?
You do have pals, right?
By the way, yes I'm sure that cheering, jumping and drinking beer on an AC/DC concert is quite offensive and disrespectful for them

Lol yeah, by being on the computer, it does nothing good to your social life, which I've realised by at least going out with friends and having a good time, which a computer can never provide.
But what's the point? You know he is just going to argue the point over and over, lol.

I think one of the best ones I have seen and can remember now is Tool. It was sadly some 7 years ago already... They play progressive alternative rock, and especially the lead guitarist is amazing. And the vocalist Maynard Keenan is a genius

I just said it. Or were you sarcastic?
The PC damage to the eyes is a myth, along with the "OMG radiation" which was true in 1980s and early 90s, of course "anti-geek" people will always use it forever as an argument no matter how good monitors shield the light radiation (even modern CRTs btw).
The other damage can be because of constant illumination & contrast, this makes you not blink as often as naturally -- this is no different from reading a book, except that when you flip the page you subconsciously also blink.
The protective glasses that I wear have a special shade to make your blinking more natural and your eyes natural condition, not dry. I also do not use excessive contrast (my background is grey, not white, on black text).

Yes I do have pals. Fortunately, I am smart enough to pick good pals. I don't need pals who will behave like that, scream, and whatever.
You don't really know much about your hearing, until you lose it. Mind you I am reading a lot of sound engineering books, acoustic properties and sound recording at the moment, because I'll try to make some music with the computer (with real recorded instruments semi-engineered etc...). Anyway my point is that to truly appreciate your hearing you should do some exercises and see it (especially with headphones).

No, it is disrespectful to their music. Simply put: they're not there for their music, but for their presence 
And I know not all concerts are that way, I explicitly said "if by concerts you mean ...." and obviously, some are more calm and civilized

No disrespect or anything, but judging from what you've said in this thread or on this page alone, I'm starting to doubt you know much about music, how concerts work etc etc. Get some albums of some live concerts and you'll hear people cheering when a particular notable song may start to play and you may hear the artists, usually the vocalist, say "thank you" or something. I'm thinking of one right now, the Depeche Mode album "101" where the lead singer says thank you to the audience for cheering and all that.

I'm being confused here.
I'm not talking about the blue thing.
And yes of course, if they are clapping they can hardly hear their music, seriously. They know it, they aren't there to love their music, they are there because the group is there.
I would feel terrible if people "loved" me more than my music, which essentially, is what the concert is about, not an interview or meeting or whatever.

How can you say such things if you've never actually seen a concert?
It's true that I haven't been to many concerts myself (mainly because there weren't many I was interested to see), but at those I have been things were not the way you describe them. True, people were shouting and screaming, but that is mainly between the songs, unless you count singing along with the band as screaming. And if you also consider that the concert is designed to overcome such shouts, I really can't see where is the disrespect in all of this.

I take a lot of words from others. I take junkies' and researchers' words on drugs, I take drinkers' and researchers' words on alcohol, I took my parents' words for putting my hand in a fire, and I will take someone else's words when it concerns my hearing.
And Geny, please reread my post and you'll see why many people don't even realize they lose their high-frequency perception for instance. And mind you this does NOT happen NOW, it will happen in YEARS but much faster than usual because you damage it more now.

Look man, I've had some work experience for some bands before, I've had work experience for play productions where we had to test out instruments and everything. It was loud, probably more so than a concert because I was right up to the speakers. I have many friends that have been to numerous bands and they don't suffer from any hearing damage. I myself make music and am exposed to high levels of volume a lot of the time and I suffer no hearing damage. Seriously, just check it out for yourself by going to a concert. You're just missing out dude.

1) You're doing it the wrong way.
2) Come back in 10 or 20 years and tell me how good is your high-frequency response. (since we're both young, that's why to be a sound engineer you have to care about your ears from youth)

I have no doubt about your music. I'm saying you're doing the production in the wrong way if you need loud sounds for production (you can always amplify later if you truly want it loud).
