Editing HOMM3 .vid and .snd files
I was wondering whether anyone here knows about any good tool that allows both importing and exporting of files from the .vid and .snd filesystems used by the HOMM3 game engine. I found two different resource editors capable of opening the files, but didn't succeed at editing them with either one. Whilst the other one was strictly a viewer, the other one kept on telling me that I was trying to add both wav and smk/bik files into the same pack despite there clearly only being smk and bik files in the folder I specified.
So are there any capable editors out there? If there aren't, does anyone know exactly how the fileformat works? I think I nailed down everything but the few bytes before the filenames. I'm assuming this is used either for the size of the file or to specify where the information starts?

use the program, that installs wog updates. to add video files put their names into video.txt file, and to add sound it would probably be heroes3.snd

Thanks, the solution for videos worked perfectly! Still wondering about the sound though, trying to trick the updater into thinking the wavs were smk files didn't work as the output was corrupt and both heroes3.txt and heroes3.snd as the filelist failed.

h3wupd.exe can't add wavs to snd files afaik.. it may be that it is enough to put *.wav file with *.82m extension to data folder, and the game will see it.

But I'm looking for a way to insert sound files into the .snd file. Is there any other software out there capable of doing this?

Yes! I got it working using a heroes 3 resource editor I found from here. I just had trouble figuring out that you also had to specify the filetype after the folder name to get it working (e.g. -import heroes3.snd heores3.snd_export\*.wav).

hmm.. thanks. but can you tell why keeping them in data folder isn't suitable for you?

I'm actually modifying the Heroes Chronicles games here, which is why adding them directly to these files works ways better.
