I'd do it myself but I know nothing about scripting.  Fnord was the guru.  I credit the quality of those maps mostly to him - he never complained about any of my absurd requests and always was able to figure out how to make it happen.

I know by heart all your maps. By heart means every word, every piece of code, every bush inside. I learned my way to mapmaking through Fnord maps. I could help, but the pressure is high, very high.

If one day you feel like wanting to complete the series, I am sure we could find here a group of wogers and give life to your wishes. True, Vlaad?

Well, technically all I need is someone talented in scripting.

The way we generally worked was that I designed and decorated the map (based on the H2 version as a template), wrote the story, and then I sent Fnord a word document describing what I wanted to happen where, and what text would appear - i.e., I wrote the text as well.  He would often have to describe to me what was actually possible, and a lot of my directions required him to create a lot of test maps to get the scripting right.  He often also made suggestions as to better ways to achieve the same story objective, though he usually left the ultimate decision up to me.  There were several iterations of this because of the sheer complexity of the scripting work (number of scripted events), particularly in THUNK.  When it was all said and done, the "instruction file" I sent to Fnord for THUNK was well over 100 pages, probably even more, although that includes the story text.  It's amazing he agreed to go through with it.  Then of course everything had to be tested (the worst, I hated that!) and then sent out for beta testing.

Anyway, I'd have to go back and play through the first four maps again because the story, as you know, is quite complex.  Even though the main story line is mapped out (in the H2 version of the campaign), the H3 version had quite a bit more characters and events, so for the sake of continuity I'd have to play through it again.  But we'll see.  If I can play through them and get up the motivation, maybe I can find myself a scripter if Fnord isn't still available.

Does H3:WOG work on Vista, by the way??

Yeah. Fnord's work would be hard to live up to, but we could try.

More complex is the story, easier is to script, starting from the premise that a chaotic scenario is very hard. My latest maps have about 100+ pages of text too, because I found necessary to trigger naturally any script, and not only for the sake of showing my variables.

So it could be done. There are chances that no one can script at Fnord level, but many things still can be done in a proper and creative way. There are more than one way to skin a cat.

I don't know if Vista is compatible with wog, the best way is to install it and see how is going. If HoMM is working with, it should be no problem for WoG either.

yeah, and forgot to mention that the actual WoG editor contains more than 500 additional new objects, special grounds, and now they can fit into any story. Also that installing new creatures is possible, according to what one needs. Fnord did not have all those tools.

Lets hijack it for a better purpose.

This scenario shows what I am able to script and how are looking the new objects or creatures. On page two you can read the plots for every quest and action, so you can have an idea about my ERM skill. Certainly not on Fnord level, but I can work around. And with Vlaad help everything may be possible, once he delete that zombie avatar and restores his youth.

My newest map: Drakon Island 1 it requires map editor v3.3. You can (must) wogify the map, but do not put on the "Some monsters are replaced by WoG monsters". It's the first map of my campaign: Legend of the Gnollking. I will post the other maps here when I finish them.

EDIT: Hope you like it.

EDIT, AGAIN: Here's an 18x18 map: Tiny War. If you wish to play it, put it in the maps folder in your heroes 3 home directory and run heroes 3 wog. If you wish to open it with the map editor, you need this: Patchmaps.exe. Run the patchmaps.exe, and change the 36x36 to 18x18 and save using the top left button. Then open your map editor and then the Tiny War map. When you try to make a new Small map (36x36), the map will be an 18x18 map. To fix this, run again the patchmaps.exe and change the 36x36 to the original 36x36, and again save using the same button. After that, when you open the map editor again, and make a 36x36 map, it should be a 36x36 map.

You should never run first heroes 3 wog map editor, and then the patchmaps.exe. Always first the patchmaps!

By the way, you can make a 9000x9000 map with the patchmaps.exe if you want

Don't get fooled. This patch is far from finished. Yes you can create a bigger map, but the minimap is not showing the extra terrain, and there are many visual glitches. It could be the starter for some programmer, so it could be beneficial in some way. But for now, it can't really be used. Yes, it will work for smaller maps, but "bigger is better", right?

I can't open your "tiny map", Gnol. I changed 36x36 to 18 but it still says invalid map. My Heroes install is in a custom folder, the patch in. Is the patch only working in Program Files/Heroes or anywhere?

I putted the patchmaps.exe to my heroes 3 home folder (where the map editor is), then runned the patchmaps and changed the 36x36 to 18x18 and saved using the button on the top left corner, then I did not closed the patchmaps.exe, and opened the map editor while the patchmaps was still running. I closed the patchmaps after i had closed the map editor.

I think it works anywhere Salamandre. I also copied the patchmaps to a custom folder in my desktop and it worked.

By the way, when I try to make an XL random map after i have changed the size of some map (144x144 to 252x252), my map editor crashes like you said on the VCMI thread.. Even when i change the 144x144 to the normal 144x144..

Well, Corribus, I thought as much as you guys worked together on the Last Hope maps, you had his email. If you lost it let me know. I see he still approves members on his Group site all the time, so he's active one way or another.

I encourage mapmakers to post their maps on the WoG Archives. I ask that you include a document to go along with your map so that the player has some clue about what they can or cannot do with your project.

I would love to, but 300 spartans being 36 Mo and predicting for Atlantis more than 100 Mo (150-200 regular maps sizes) I was not sure it can be done, so 300 was never uploaded to archives, neither tried to Celestial.

We will put a link up as to where to get them in that case. That won't be a problem.

As it stands, we are mostly into the preservation of older maps and files. But, eventually, 300 Spartans and Atlantis will become old projects, so we want to preserve that in some way. Eventually we will have a home for everything on the Archives in one place on a web site. But I have been very picky about what I want with so many HoMM sites disappearing daily. I want a site that will last forever, and so far, yahoo is the only one thats lasted so long as it has.

(I was'nt trying to get off topic. I apologize)
