Hero choice, prior to playing a map
Is there a mod out there that allows you to choose a hero prior to playing a map?. You could do this with 'Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete'. I'm dissapointed that this feature is missing in HoMMIV.
I have 'Heroes of Might and Magic IV Complete', but only have H4 installed.

Hero's choice is not very necessary, as heroes of same class in HoMM IV have no difference from each other - only name and portrait. Or do you want to choose hero class?

It's not that big a deal, but I'd like to be able to select between Male and Female, and have a decent looking portait . I have to restart a scenario several times to get what I'm looking for. Selecting between a Hero's class would be great also.

by 'decent looking portrait' you mean a normal looking portrait, not something like those silly looking orc sorcerers, or genie lords?

Where can I find facetool, can you provide the link for me?. Thanks.
Is changing the music and sound effects as simple as using ResEdit2?.

Here's an informative thread on the Face Tool.

So the only way it will work is by using Equalibris, right?.
Another thing, I have Heroes IV in a different directory, I'm not using the default location. "C:\Games\Heroes 4"

As far as I know, the Face Tool works only with Equilibris. The good news is it's a small download and quick installation. In addition, you can still play the original game if you want to (different exe files). Equilibris is great though - the changes are minor but neat.
You can get Equilibris 3.51 and the Face Tool here. You'll probably have to register at FilePlanet to download those files, but it's free and fast.

This is the message I get when running FaceTool.
"Your registry does not contain information of Heroes IV folder.
Press OK to find it manually (point to equi.h4r file in data folder)"

Try creating empty equi.h4r file in data folder and point facetool to that file, then after you modify hero's portraits and save them, rename file portraits.h4r to new.h4r. It should work, though I can't promise that facetool will fall for this trick
