Logistics
Logistics as a skill doesn't seem to be the best representation anymore.
Everyone wants logistics, and everyone seems to pick it when given. Not even stuff like (talking Heroes 5 versions) Luck, Dark and Light magic are not picked nearly as often.
So why not make logistics and thus movement capability dependent on hero, alignment and creature special abilities combined with either Knowledge or a new independent value?
Unlike say casting Mass Haste, logistics is not something the hero does on its own, all the army partakes in that. And you would get more openings for other skills and perks in your hero development.
A major downside of Heroes V is that, between your racial skill, the almost mandatory Logistics and the almost mandatory correct magic school, you are left with only 3 choices which is less than a lot.

You are right. Logistics is the greatest skill of them all. Maybe if the boost to speed only was minor it would be more balanced but people would propably still choose it.
Random idea:
What if a large army moved slower than small armies. Then massing your armies into one wouldn't be a good idea anymore.
What does this have to do with logistics? With logistics the penalty of large armies decreased. That's also what's logistics about: Managing.

I agree. Logistics is perhaps the most gotten skill. Perhaps make a level limit for each Logistics upgrade? Or make heroes have to learn certain other skills before Logistics?

I actually like that idea, a lot. It makes sense, it's logical, AND it would have a good effect on gameplay I would think... It would make it a lot less practical to mass all your troops into a single main hero.
Mind you, the issue can be partially resolved by removing hero racials.

On the bigger armies are slower than smaller ones idea, I'll post something here that I'd originally posted on another site:
You give a hero a certain (increasing with level) number of 'logistics points', and assign a 'cost' of said points to each unit, so if an army exceeds the limit it goes slower (maybe along the lines of hero points/army cost, or even [hero points/army cost]^2). You'd have to work it differently on the battlefield, perhaps if each stack was taken individually rather than the army as a whole.
