My Reply:

About 3 player games, it was reported incorrectly.  In the future, if you play 3 player, this is how it works:
1st place reports win against 3rd place
3rd place reporst loss to 1st place
2nd place does not report at all, hence no points change.

there are ten philo and 5 clans each.  All are full.  So what about expanding to allow more clans?  I am a clan member, but would consider starting a new clan, and have talked to other players who are interested.  Is there a chance this will open up soon, or is this a locked up system?

My Reply:

Since clans are ending in less than a month, there is no real use to opening up a new clan.   When I set up the philosophies, I estimated that 5 spots for 10 philosophies (50 clans) would be sufficient for a 'full house'.  It was pretty much dead-on; though nowadays when one spot opens there are several applications for the open spot within the day.
You could say as ToH has grown so big, there is a lot of overall 'politics' and balancing needed to keep these subtourneys active and interesting.  If more spots were opened up, it would put less competition for spots, so just like gas prices there is a constant weighing and measuring of supply and demand to keep things in good check.
Anyways my point being that this season IV clans was an experiment in the new clan system; the past two seasons had a different format.  This new system has been quite successful, so it will be used for what it was really meant for, homm4.
This clan season was very short, and more a 'beta' of whats to come, 3 months of gaming for clans isnt really much, compared to what will be 1 year of clan activity for homm4 before a finals closes it for that season.
In earlier seasons, if a clan was inactive for more than 30 days, it would get disbanned.  We did not bother for this season simply because of the short time clans would be active.
Also in the next season homm4 clans, it will be expanded to many more spots per philosophy, and perhaps a few extra philosophies as well -- especially since activity in ToH will triple in the least.
About Ocean Angel -- Its a two person clan, not a one man clan.  That rule will still apply in homm4; that at least 2 players per clan minimum.

Will there be WOG maps in ToH? If yes, will they be a part of the current season, or a part of the "heroes classic" for the next season?

WoG = Wake of Gods

A modification of heroes 3, called 'heroes 3.5'.  Its up to the players if they wish to play that for ToH, there are no rules against it.  However, there will be no maps on the ToH site that are in WoG version, because none have been properly play balanced or converted.

I want to join TOH for Heroes4, but I don't have much experience playing with clans or network play except with my friends. As with current job sometimes i have to work weeks non-stop - I don't know if this is gonna keep me from playing on TOH. Does the player needs to be online and available in order to play it?

Can i play independend in TOH, without being in clan? like Tournament games or something?

What are the requirments for your network - currently my ISP @Home got busted and we switched to Adelphia - but I share internet connection with three other computers - and we don't have real IP's - as I don't play so much online games - I don't know or didn't try if it's working. We are using fake IP's i guess?

activity

You can be as active as playing once a month on ToH, or be like some addicts who play daily.  There is no activity requirement.

participation

Most players play individual games only, called 'free challenge' which makes up most of the rankings page.  Tournaments and Clans are more for the hardcore players, which are about 15% of the active ToH community, and demand more play time.

freedom

ToH is based on the freedom to be able to play anyone at anytime, with any rules mutually desired, and to participate in any subtournament you have the interest in.

ToH maps for Heroes IV

In the beginning, we will have a list of whatever maps available on the CD as ToH maps.  After a while, the newly formed map council will eliminate some, and keep others.  Then as map submissions add up, over time most maps will be player made maps.

I have a question here
As I have played  H3 of TOH for some months,I found a deadly defect about this game in competition. It's a game of easyly cheating ( to use 2 computers at the same time ,one on game with others by internet,the other just to load the save from the former one ,and reveal the opponent's strategy ). How can we avoid such business?
How can we set the balance point of joy and competition?
That's why some of my friends very good at H3 don't want to play in TOH , they don't want to waste many hours in playing with an possible cheating opponent.

and I try atleast to make different styles so people can choose which they prefer and which they dont

To CHN_Dragon:  There is no way to stop cheating like that, in which two computers are used.  Only way is to use saves and suspect opponent of doing so.  Some have been caught and booted for doing that.

About fixed IP address, no you do not need a fixed IP to play in ToH.  If that was so, we would lose 80% of our players lol.

Maps

Here is another thought: With regard to the maps for the new heroes 4 is it not possible to use the same format style maps as used in heroes 3.

I mean eg Me Vs You can be built in almost exactly the same way for heroes 4.

I know there will be lost of dfferences like creatures, buildings and artifacts, but these maps are good to play.  At least when heroes 4 these maps can still be created.

Use and create maps like Hourglass, Me Vs You, Battlemania and my favourite The Hero.

H3 ToH Maps Converted to H4 ToH Maps

Yes, you can probably be assured that when homm4 comes out, a few months later the map addicts will be creating heroes4 version of their most popular maps.  If you look now, there are H3 versions of popular H2 maps that were converted by dedicated, eg. beltway, seven lakes.

Map Council

ToH will have a map council in heroes IV, in which will consist of 3 or more players.   They will review maps that get sumbitted to ToH, and assess them for quality, balance, originality, and aesthetics.  Once 2/3 of them pass it, it becomes a ToH map.

Its too early to create the map council, it will be set up in March.  Some who have shown interest, but not confirmed are Jb239, MadUnicorn, and Hapkane.  For now, I am putting no limit to the volunteers for this, but they will have to be very reliable for at least 6 months and review without bias and complete efficiency.

Hit and Run Issue

I have played many games and kept a highest honor rating because I play fairly.  In the game against KeithL99 he violated our rule against hit and run.  He and I were very evenly matched.  He attacked my castle with limited forces and was beaten.  He used a spell to kill my final "non-summoned" creature, and retreated.  This left my main with only summoned creatures remaining in the garrison. the tactics are hit and run.  He and I agreed that was not allowed.  He was out of spell points and I had sufficient spell points left to Rez units.  he retreated before allowing that.  His hero is available in the tavern with a single creature.  Of course, what I consider a "bug" leaves my hero in space.  This is not the type of tactics I consider "honorable".  He knew he was attacking with out enough forces to win.  We had played a good game to ths point.  If anything I would consider this game a draw.   I do recognize this as a win for him, and told him so.  I have discussed this with other long-standing TOH members, and they have agreed with me.  The save game would show his hero in tavern, and an even game.  He deserves no win.  In fact, I would give him a loss for breaking the no hit and run rule, and a poor honor rating.  Thanks.  Let me know your decision about this please.  I will abide by your decision.

My Reply

One BIG problem.  Me and the honor council consistently repeat and people dont listen:  If you add a rule to the game like no Hit and Run, we are not responsible for issues that come up. The interpretation is terrible, each with their own idea of what hit and run is, and there is enough topics on this on the ToH message board.  So to be honest, even if he breaks the rule to the worst level, he wins by default.  He may not be playing honorably, but this no hit and run rule is a player made rule and is 'play at your own risk'.   Even my wife melissa 'hit and run' an opponent when it was agreed not to, but it was her lack of understanding of what the rule was about--all it did was cause grief.  I told her never to play with that rule again, and avoid anyone who wants that rule.
In this case however, I deleted the win report, but will still give manual credit to KeithL99.  Just please understand in the future that I will not rule on these issues.

Automation system add-on!

If it's not cost so much, why don't you use some scripts for clan updating. There will be nice to view clans statistic as current players one, i guess it might been done quite simple - and clans update posting become much interractive faster and informatively.
Commonly well-known fact is that current TOH-site graphic and automation system is beta-testing for next TOH HOMM4 season, so if you are going to use it futher, just say it.

Automation & Modifications

The automation right now is optimum, but to make clans and other subtournaments automated its more complicated than it seems arteman.  People do not realize the severe complexity of the automation currently set with all its parameters... To add new automation sets for clans/divisions etc.. would mean more $$$ and Ive spent $5000 for it already, and $100's a month for server costs.
What is going to be added to the automation is more behind the scenes things for the honor council and security checks that I cannot disclose here.  
The only thing additional to the automation that would be more visible to the playing public is that prestige will be incorporated in player search, thus eliminating hall of fame and physically having prestige points displayed along with points when you look up a player.
Also, the honor rating system in winloss reports will be modified with -3% for dishonorable, 0% for neutral, and +1% for honorable, thus making it more difficult for one to achieve high honor ratings, and honor penalties become far more significant.
