Gnollking, replacing portraits lasts quite long, but I'll try to explain that...
So you have to extract from h3sprite.lod def files called "TWCRPORT" and "CPRSMALL", afterwards you have to put each one into an empty folders, now you'll have to open them with defview, and at first save them as def list, and extract each one frame into folder in that you have put the def file. After that you have to exchange images that will be creatures's new portraits. After that you open H3deftool and open def list of def that you want to create, select it's path and click on french key, now you can exchange your def.
You can get original Behemot def by extracting it from game...
@edit When I tried to exchange kodo's aniamtion, my game crashed too... I'll try to fix that...

Try to find wowmodelview-v0.5.08-alfred-r536, as it is the only one which does not crash every 10 minutes. After that, it is pretty simple: extract frames from all angles (about 8-10) and paste them in a single layer, creating a palette.
Once you have the new palette saved, resize the model window to 450x400, choose your camera angle and start extracting (F12). To find ideal size extract an existing frame model from lod and load its background and compare until it is close. Then spend more time to choose your angles/animations from the 70+ present.
I would say the hardest part is to find the model you want, as there are many which will not look good, without 3DsMax, but that one is not easy to start. I have it but I am speechless, and Darkloke keeps deep his secrets.

Well, I don't get the point. The goal is to add good looking creatures and working frames. We could debate years about possible creatures but in long time, nothing is added to the game and we just talk.
Of course, most of WOW creatures would not have their place in HoMM original, but WoG offers so many customization possibilities than anything is possible. And when you will do your first map you will get my point. I was more than happy when Darkloke sent me his war elephants and abomination from WOW.

This one?
I can't see how it would be possible in 2 hexes only.

@ Mitabrin- I've looked through your pages at the creatures and must say I'm very impressed. The Night Hunter creature on page 4. I'm the author. it appears you have the unfinished version since I never released the final. If you would like, I could send you the final edition so you can update.

in the unfinished version, there are a few speckles of diff color in the cloak, also with mouse over during battle, his outline in silver for a bit. I just fixed it in final version so he looks normal/better. It's just a fix of those little errors.
