thanks, mytical, I was just curious. I usually am not a fan of having originality as this major factor, but if no one else sees fault in this, then sure I'll judge it by the given criteria.

Just remember, that you decide what originality IS. You can also give everybody a score of 0 (or insert same score for everybody) making it not a factor at all for you.

Criterions

Well, I must agree with Dagoth. Your listed criterions, Mytical, are a good starting point but when faced with actual judging I think they are inferior to the grading systems of ICTC 1-3 because in my eyes they don't really convey what qalifies a good contest entry by any means.

Apart from that your list lacks the details needed for congruent judging!

However, in view of the fact that there's still one month to go before you officially(?) launch the contest, I think we should rethink the criterions because without a detailed grading standard we'd let wander the contestants into to a free space that isn't beneficial for any elaborated out-comings.

Hence my approach would be to take the best of the first three systems and merge it into the final and binding(!) form since, from my point of view, especially the last two contests have been characterized by rather incomparable ratings as each jugde did the grading as he liked.

Indeed, I think, only one grading standard for all judges can ensure that really the best entry emerges finally. Otherwise we're just comparing apples and oranges again.

Well, the criteria I always uses is Creativity, Detail, Balance, Playability (which can combine with Balance to give more points to Detail & Creativity) then the all powerful Discretionary points that are given as per the judges taste.

As I see it, there are two forgone conclusions: that the judges need a set system, not a personal scoring power, and that either competition requires two different systems.

Well, since I am the Host..and not a Judge, my criteria was just a suggestion.  The judges can feel free to agree on a criteria, and use it instead.

I'll try to make myself better understood.

What I think of being useful for the judges and the contestants is a distinct, logically consistant set of grading/marking/scoring (name it whatever you like best) rules. Something alike the marking sheet of the 2nd ICTC. Hence all the judges and contestants would again 'work' on the same basic criterion and thus more target-oriented.

Which is fine.  I am just the MC and Host (and granter of the qp that come to the winners), somebody asked for criteria, I put out a suggestion.  Its all good.

OK, Mytical. But then I'd like to get to know more about your intended 'REdesign contest' because the way I understood your proposal I don't think it necessarily is different from the original ICTC as you could make up a 'new', for example, Haven there if you only wanted to.

Rather I think it'd even torpedo the original idea behind contest as on the one side then there would be the 'original' towns and on the other side there would be the 'recapped' one's thus reducing originality in itself to absurdity.

Well the redesigned town is a bit simpler, and has to make sense.  Like for instance, throwing in all mechanical creatures for 'Haven' would not make sense.  The all mechanical Haven would be ok for the original contest, but not the remaking one.  It has to fit the H5 theme as it is currently.  Also, you don't have to recreate skills, etc unless you want.

I really hope people ignore the 2nd contest, because we're going on our 5th year of Heroes 5 and this place has a depleted amount of members as it is. You can participate in both, but don't count on hardly anybody doing that. I'm going to be obnoxiously holding up a "I told you so" sign if we get 10 participants and they're split between 2 contests.

100 pts for the story? who cares about the story? the gameplay is more important.

makes me think of mapmaking for FPS. some people build maps which look stunning, but are very uninteresting to play

Well, I'm still not convinced that it's true to the today's idea of an ICTC (evolving the game) but I'd like to hear some other opinions.

(In my eyes it's like repeating the HoMM5 town contest and selling it as ICTC.)

EDIT: Dito, blizzard.

As I said however long ago, this really hasn't a snowball's chance in hell of becoming bigger and better than ever until Heroes VI gets announced. Pass the "I told you so" sign when you're done.

Blizzard, so what if that is the case?  First, the two have absolutely nothing to do with each other.  People can choose to do one, the other, or both.  If they were not going to participate in one, that would not change.  However, this is a contest for others, not me.  Make a poll, whatever people decide I will be happy with.

Cepheus.  The point of that would be...??

H6 is going to be announced sometime next year, so there's no reason to start before that. The next ICTC has a chance to be as successful as the first one, why rush it?

For me, the contest loses a lot of its spark if you have a really low number of participants. The size of it makes it exciting, therefore splitting into two contests on the 5th year is a big thumbs down for me. Maybe not everybody feels that way though.

Agreed.

In addition, half of the entries usually fit into the Factions Remade category anyway.

Another statement may not to be neglected.

Just look at the last contest's reception as the enthusiasm around Heroes had noticeably decreased ... and I don't presume it's increased in the last year without any substantial news!

Besides I again share blizzard's apprehension and Vlaad reassures my opinion that redesigning factions has been part of ICTC's from the start...

EDIT:
Observing that Mytical was indeed online and took his/her (who cares) time to post perks but not reply or type any kind of text that could be interpreted as a reply to my humble offering i will rephrase my previous statement.
