@B-E-T-A: To answer your last question first, yep one character per round.
As for the landmasses, I'll try something interesting for this one. Seeing as how it's a generic 5x5 grid to begin with, how about rolling against a 100-sided dice and determining what each square looks like based on that?
(Rolls only determine the condition of the city in the grid. There will be a city in each grid.)
1-10 = Desert (complete lack of water)
11-30 = Water is available, but no bodies of water per se.
31-50 = Presence of a small, but not insignificant body of water. It may or may not affect travel through the grid.
51-75 = Areas of the city may be divided by water.
76-95 = Water covers a great part of the city.
96-100 = Venice! (Water everywhere, to the point that you have to be careful where you step. )
Will roll when more people get in.
@Sir_Dragon: Is it a problem I can help with, or are you just confused as to what you want to pick?
Take your time. I'm not in a rush to start this, although my roll call post seems to indicate otherwise.
