A look at planetary society for planets that are (or are trying to become) members of the Federation.

Mercury - Long acknowledged as the greatest artisans in the Galaxy, the Mercurian people are often mostly androgenous.  It is often difficult to tell a female from a male.  The society has a King and a Queen, and nobels.  However, nobody is limited in what they can be or achieve (except only those of royal blood can be nobels/king or queen of course).  A farmers child can become a wealthy merchant, or a Nobels child can lead a quiet domestic life of a farmer.  Royalty does not live a rich opulent life, but a pretty 'average' one in concerns of comfort and such.

While heterosexuality is the norm, no sexuality is looked down apon or hindered in any way.  All couples who marry, despite the sex of the partners, have the same legal rights as any other.  Sexuality is also discussed openly and freely, even with the children.  All the information is presented, and whatever is decided is accepted warmly.  The normal age when they are considered able to decide is 250.

Cheif exports are of course hand crafted items and artistic items, which are highly sought after.

Venus Economically Venus really does not have much to offer the rest of the Federation.  A militaristic heirarchy, based on who is the strongest..they do not have a great deal of raw resources or provide many finished goods.  Mainly they are employed as strategist or military consultants, security or similar.  With their history of problems with the Federation, they are a bit less financially secure then most of the planets that make up the Federation.  Being totally self sufficient, however, this causes them no issues.

Politically things are rapidly changing for them (or at least rapidly where they are concerned), as political pressure from other planets catches up with them.  The lowest caste female is considered higher then the highest caste male.  Females are about twice as physically strong as the males, and the males are forbidden to learn the Venetian martial arts that make them some of the most feared combatants in the Federation.  Males are actually normally 'soft' because a female would rather do the heavy labor then trust a man, and males are relegated to pretty much the equivilent of concubines.

Sexuality of Venetians is a bit..unusual.  Males often don't have a say in what they like or don't like, and have a bit of forced heterosexuality.  The norm for females is bisexuality, as males are for mating, and other females are for life partners.  However, males often get visited by several different females a day.  There is no offical age of consent on Venus.  They follow the Federation guidlines of equivilent to 18 earth years old when off of Venus.

However, things are changing on Venus..and it is hard telling what the future holds.

Mars - The Builders of the Galaxy.  It may not be 'purdy' but they make some of the sturdiest things.  They also make some of the most advanced things.  Engineers, builders, and tinkerers, the Martians are a very industrious people.  They are also some of the wealthier people in the Federation.

Politically they are a democracy, but the governement pretty much doesn't have to do much.  Martians are often to preoccupied to cause mischief or commit crimes, and they maintain their own roads, schools, and such.  They have a strong community and moral center, and will rally and help each other out if there is a problem.  Criminals or such beware, you bother one Martian..you might find yourself having to take them all on.

Strongly heterosexual, and strong family ties.  Often generations of Martians will be living under one roof, and sharing resources.  They waste very little also. They mature slowly, however, and are the equivilent of 30 human years old before even becoming interested (roughly 135 earth years old)

Saturn A planet that produces nothing, has very limited resources, and has a people that are the least industrious of the Galaxy.  One would think that they would live a miserable existence..and one would be mistaken.  As they need VERY little to survive, and are a very free society they have no desire for material things and enjoy life to the fullest every minute of every day.  They are laid back, relaxed, and the least stressed of any of the species.

Politically..there is no politics.  Everybody just sort of takes care of each other, and there is no need for any sort of government at all.  Only somebody insane would wonder into the eye of the storm to cause any problems for them, and even if they did, the Saturian people are a very hardy race that if motivated might be able to topple the entire Federation.  Living IN the storm they are near indestructable (at least from the outside), and can even survive in space without the aid of a ship.  Luckily for the rest of the galaxy, they wouldn't harm a fly.  Well that and the Venetians have their ray guns..which is another thing entirely .

Pretty much every Saturian has a little bit of all sexuality.  Depends on their mood, the time of day, the alignment of the stars, etc.  If it was given a label 'omnisexual' might come the closest.  Its a free love society.  They live short, but action packed lives.  Their '9' is the equivilent (maturity wise) of 18 (both physically and mentally).

Uranus - Probably one of the more simplistic planets out there.  Their normal state is one of crystals of ice that cover the entire planet.  They can assume a single other shape, and it is usually that of a humanoid.  When they are in 'crystal' form, they have a hive mind.  Everybody thinks, acts, and exists as one.  It is not unusal to find gigantic clusters of the crystals in one area, to form a kind of society.  Like Saturn they don't produce or consume anything, nor do they need to.

Since whenever they are in crystal form they have a hive mind, there is no government.  They will always do what is best for the many, not the one.  They only take the other form to leave the planet, so again there is no need for government. One advantage to their crystal form is that they can immediately transfer knowledge from one to another..all learning what one has learned instantly.  Which is one reason they make such deadly defensive fighters.  Selfless, dedicated, and able to act as one..they have no weaknesses to exploit (since they are also capable of independant though if needed).

The typical Uranian is Asexual.  They do not need to procreate at all, and often the sex they chose for their humanoid form is arbitrary.  They could have easily gone the other way.  There are rare individuals that this is not true for..but there is not very many of them.  They reproduce normally only in crystaline form, and much like single cell organisms do.

Neptune - Another planet that produces little, but this one is one of the wealthier planets.  Because the one thing they have in abundence is one of the most valuable commodities...information.  Their whole society and nature is built around the aquisition, storage, and dispersal of knowledge.  The other Federation members would drop everything to protect them because of their vast stores of valuable knowledge.  Civilians pay great ammounts for access to their libraries (luckily all Section 3 members are paid for).

Politically they are a very rigid society, but no official government per se.  Everybody knows their place, their job, and their duties.  Again they have a sort of hive mind, only this is a constant thing and they can recieve and transmit over vast distances.  One of them visiting Mercury could transmit data to one in Andromeda without problem..instantly.  Unfortuantely they are not very good communication advocates, as anything transmitted would be permanently stored and accessable by ANYBODY.

They have both sexes in one body.  They do mate to reproduce, but one can be either the 'male' or 'female' on any given encounter.  Much like animals they have mating cycles, and no official age of consent.whenever one of them feels the call of the mating cycle, they are considered 'of age'.

Andromeda - Male dominated, and average production and resources.  Manual labor seems to be their main export however.  Society wise they are almost like an anti-venus.  Males make all the rules, control the government and pretty much decide everything for the females..or at least that is the way it looks on paper.  The females are very intelligent (as are the guys, but they won't ever admit it) and are actually treated with deep respect.  Offically they can't vote, can't own property, etc..unoffically EVERYTHING gets passed through the females before any rule is passed.  Which means that they COULD be running things, but choose not to for some reason of their own.

It is a democracy, but only males are allowed to vote.  They have one of the biggest (and most meddlesome) governments but very little beuracracy (cause that would frustrate most male andromedians..and a frustrated andromedian is a BAD thing).  Very 'big brotherish' with little or no privacy for the citizens.  Since they tend to be very vocal and outgoing about things..this doesn't bother them in the least.

Very heterosexual, and somewhat homophobic.  Nobody even discusses the distant possibility..very few Andromedians are tolerant of any 'weird sexuality' (in their words).  Males mate with females period (so no Andromedian will ever come out of the closet..at least in ear shot of other Andromedians.)

Helix - The Helixians (Like Terra and Teira) have just encountered the Federation, and are in the process of becoming a member.  They have average production, but a whole lot of raw material as they use VERY little.  They might become the food/wood/etc producers for the entire Federation as their homeworld has vast jugles with TONS of food litterally hanging from trees.  Also, unlike most earth felines, they share the work load and decision making equally (IE the Alpha Female has as much say as the Alpha Male, and the males do their share of things like hunting, taking care of the children..etc).

They live and exist in prides with a very strict hiearchy.  There is an Alpha male and female, who make ALL the decisions for that pride.  Everybody else either listens to them or get killed or banished.  Though like Venetians anybody can challenge for Alpha (males can challenge males, females can challenge females).  Most of the time, however, they are content.  There is no appeal process, or anything.  When the Alphas make a decision, that is the end of it.

All Helixians are bisexual (Both males and females).  It is not unusual for a man to have many wives, or a woman to have many husbands.  Or for them all to share a bed.  Also there is no bar on incest (it is actually commonplace).  They do not have mating seasons, and age limits are fluid.  They live even shorter lives (normally) then any other species (often only 10 years or so), and by 2 years old (at the latest) they are as mature as 21 year old earthlings.  Some rare ones (like Terra and Teira) will live longer however.

Just a reminder to the people trying to get romantically involved with Terra/Teira.  They make Dispair look pretty faithful..it is a forein concept for them to have one 'mate'. You might want to have your characters sit them down and talk to them about it..because it would be like a fish trying to breath on land in the desert for them to 'mate' with only one person.  Though, since they are loyal (in their own way) they would try if asked.  Though Terra IS a little more conservative then the average member of her species.

Also Changing Amber a tad.  Her nickname won't be Whisper (when she is found) but Chance.

Ummm...
I'm kinda baffled on what's happening.
We're supposed to pick which we attack?
Based on what exactly? We are attacking what?
I know Silicon Valley or New York. I have no idea what were supposed to do there? Obliterate the whole city?

Hahaha.  No (I made a post of why a few pages back in the IC, but...)

New York has the only link to a powerful satelite that will allow the Mechanical would be god a chance to access John Strongarms ship.  The only ship that is non-utopian to have Utopian technology.  If the Mechanical threat can breach the security, the Utopians would have no choice but to come and pretty much whipe out everything.  By that time the machine plans to have backed itself up to something outside of the galaxy, and rebuild itself later as nothing will be left to stop it.  The only good news is that it will take the machines full faculties to breach New York's security..meaning that there would be no copies if you can stop it there.

Silicon Valley has a DNA repository from which the machine can make an untold number of clones of the heroes.  Which would be a VERY bad thing, as it would have its own army of mutants, totally obediant to it.  Again, in order to fully utilize the facility it would have to focus it's attention there, meaning again no copies will be around IF it can be stopped there.

Since it has made some clones (and more then one of each), should you split your forces one group would be facing nearly unbeatable odds.  The clones are not quite as potent as the orginals in mass form, but the numbers would be too great.

So far I've seen no discussion about this between people.
It seems they are just randomly choosing where to go.
And splitting up.

Varjo and Darkblade don't have any prior knowledge of thismachine so they have almost nothing to base their choice on.
One simple choice would be that if the machine succeeds in Silicon Valley we can still obliterate earth and it with it while as if it gets to strongarm's ship we are done for.
